Certainly hope Sherco have improved from last year. Verhoeven's bike just disintegrated from underneath him.

I reckon it'll be Stan (but then he may not actually be a Brit anyway).

My favorite for British Rider:

Craig Bounds:

Racing starts on the 5th so a few more days to go Please visit my website for updates as i cant text at the moment so Tams should be updating the blog everyday. www.craigboundsdakar.com and apparently #107Craig might help whatever that is. Once phone is working I can twit again or whatever it is"

Yeah the Sherco was certainly |shaken down well by Frans. He is certainly not a forgiving rider for the bike. A bit like ex F1 driver from the same country, Jos Verstappen, drive it till it breaks.

Craig's riding in Malle-Moto isn't he? It'll be a good effort to be top Brit on that basis (but it is Dakar).

He may, the question is where. The only unallocated numbers are 29, 104, and 138. I suspect, as a full factory rider, they will slot him in as #29. There are gaps on the list, but those numbers are assigned to people and I assume it is not as easy as just reassigning a number.

By many accounts it was not the bike that let him down as much as the preparation of the bike. As far as I recall, he didn't really have much in the way of mechanical errors. The trouble he had could mostly be sourced back to mechanic problems and as a stage winner, he certainly proved the speed of the package as did Casteu a year prior.

I think the Sherco is a nice package, time will tell how much CrocoAdventures has matured as a team. Apparently last year was treated as much as a holiday as a race environment. To say Frans was frustrated would be an understatement.

I was going to ask why it would be difficult to reassign a number but, then I remembered the answer to such seemingly simple questions; Because it's the DAKAR

I don't know for sure, but I do think that when you pay the required fees, there is a certain agreement made as to competitors using the number for promotional purposes. In a sense, they are temporarily renting the "rights" to that number once it is assigned. I looked through the list and only the three I mentioned remain unassigned, except for #55 which I suspect the ASO would soft retire to honor Kemal Merkit, at least for this year.

Bluebull finds himself in a good position for some stage wins . . . if he's off the morphine, which is difficult to predict right now.

I think flood will be up there all the way until the a few days before, at which point his wife will give him the "I think there's something wrong with you, screaming and whooping at a computer screen for nearly two weeks" talk. He'll finish, but it will be difficult not to fall behind at that point.

Safariberg has a new computer, but it's not factory. He put it together himself, so we'll see how his machine holds out.

Now that right there is funny!

Yes Dread, but wait till Garfey turns up with a few beers and a Cuban!
