Sun, Wind, Hail, Rain, and Snow in Central Arizona
Went on a day trip up to the old Smithsonian Observatory on Harquahala Mountain today. I also rode it yesterday, but it was sunny and nice. Today was more fun! Started off sunny, then as we got closer to the mountain we were riding into a thunderstorm. Started off raining on the way up, then windy as heck, then hail, then at the top it snowed and hailed on us again. My buddy on a Tiger 800XC made it on damn near bald tires. My other buddy did his first dirt ride on a borrowed 1980's or 90's Yamaha 350 dual sport. My Husqy TE449 did awesome, although the rear trials tire hated the mud.
Who says you need tread for mud and slick rock?
Peter at the top wondering how the hell he is getting back down on that beast. :)
The Husqy and Yami at the top.
The calm before the goo...
Looking to the snow.
What's he doing? A snow dance perhaps?
In the snow.
Pics from yesterday in the sun:
My ugly mug having my St. Pats toast on top of the mountain.
Looking down from the top. 5800ft elevation.
What's left of the old observatory.

Cool! I did a somewhat similar ride a ways back up to the aircraft guidance beacons up above Bartlett Lake... snow, fog, rain... it was a blast.
It's not the limits of the bike... it's the limits of the rider on the bike.
