Bmw r75/5 track racing bike

If you say the news blurbs about the bike that was raffled at Barber, you probably also noticed that its been for sale lately with a $20K asking price.

Well, now it's on Ebay. 1 Day 12 hours left to go and the bikes up to $8700.00 and climbing.

It's a nice bike and you couldnt have it built for anywhere near that cheap. Lets see where it goes!

It is pretty cool and a bargain in that price range. Bummer is that its front brakes are not legal for Formula 750 or BEARS under AHRMA rules. You are limited to a single 12" fixed disc with period calipers. Put the dual Brembos on your streetbike and take this one racing in April (27-29) at Willow Springs!

The skeptic in me sees, "THIS BIKE HAS ONLY BEEN STARTED, NEVER RACED! THERE IS A FEW VERY MINOR THINGS THAT NEED SOME ATTENTION" and thinks, "Unfinished racer project." Especially if they think/thought it conforms to existing racing classes but doesn't.

Terrible pics. Dark, little detail, duplicates, can't even tell if the engine has been raised or not. Angle sort of looks like it, but who knows. No indication of what was actually done to it. Stock /5 motor? Who knows. They couldn't even take the fairing off?

Nice paint, if you like the color, but where's the beef?

And they put all of that effort into a frame with no title?!?!

Here is the build thread. There are some tasty bits on there but they did not choose the best components to fit the "like" construction.

I wonder how it steers with those reversed fork sliders.

It would probably have about 6 1/2" + of trail and steer like a chopper.

I dunno what to say....

I didn't start this thread with the idea that it would generate so many bad vibes.

My thought was/is that thats a very kool little bike that needs to go to a racer and as we know, any real racer is going to tear that bike down and put it back together before it ever sees the track.

oh well, I guess the Curmudgeons win again!

Yuk! Looks heavy and poorly executed for a race bike. What's up with the welded panels in the battery cover area? No need to answer.

Damn, and I was trying to be kind and we get called out! I too wondered about the welded in sidecovers. When triangulation just isn't enough?

I've seen those welded-in side covers before but where the idea cam from I have no idea. There are far better ways to brace a subframe but then again, I don't know the class rules.

Going back to the original idea - what a great way for a fundraiser. Build a bike from a pile of parts & get companies to sponsor it with product & services.
Raffle it off to someone who likes the look of it.
Good on them for that.
Ok maybe it's not eligible for racing but I would've bought a ticket to support them & have a cool looking bike to sit in my garage & have a blast on the track with.

If you won it what would you do with it?

Pull it to pieces and sell off the parts
