Dirt Cherohala / Condition

Has anyone recently been on the "Dirt Cherahola"? I'm thinking about hitting up tomorrow (Friday) and I'll be solo so I was wondering if anyone has been on it lately. If so, what condition is it in? I haven't been on it in about three years so I figured I'd ask.

I did it on a 2008 V-Strom last time so I don't think my Super Tenere will have any issues as long as it's in similar shape.

Thoughts?

Dave..

are you talking about fr82? it parallels the skyway on the NC side.

I haven't rode it in a while but it is semi maintained, the upper part tends to be a little rougher and looser, if you continue on North river road it is in great shape.

If you go up to Whigg Meadows the azalea should be blooming.

I was there 3 weeks ago and it was pristine at the time.

I rode it for the first time last Saturday. As stated, it was in great shape if a bit dusty. A couple soupy spots but otherwise fine.

And it's the "gravel-hala"... It's a couple gravel forest service roads that parallel the Cherohala Skyway.

Yeah, that's why I like it. :) I'm not keen on tackling dirt on a 800lb bike (with me on it) by myself.

I have no idea how to describe this. But somewhere in there you'll find the body.

Edit: I didn't think you could upload attachments anymore but I guess you can, so I uploaded the GPX file.

Looks like a good day's ride to me. If your trip down 129 occurs in the afternoon, expect it to be slow.

Fontana Dam is neat if you like stuff like that.

Tellico Kat's Deli is a good lunch spot. Pizzeria Venti in Vonore is also very good.

If you fancy a little ride to a delicious meal, follow 28 south to Franklin and go to Cafe Rel.

That was a great ride on a large dual sport. The roads were all in good shape as expected. Surprisingly 129 was quiet so I was able to blast through Deals Gap on my way back to homeplate.

I ended up eating at the Dragon Pit BBQ near 129 and 72 and pleasantly surprised by a great bacon cheeseburger.

I wasn't able to make it over to Franklin before it was time to head home so the next time I'm up there I'll be sure to check out Cafe Rel.

Tellico Grains is a wood fired bakery that makes pastries, fresh bread, sandwiches during the week and adds wood fired pizza to the menu on Saturdays.

They are in downtown Tellico Plains.
