We leave Batum and continue north via Poti and Zugdidi.

Sometimes it made me feel like I am somewhere in Africa somehow. Similar trees, sellers of dried fish, burnt gasoline smoke through the port... Very difficult to explain.

Our route is roughly like this;

And we continue to Poti.

It is quite green all around and they even have a "Botanical Garden" in Batum.

Now we have passed Poti and on the way to Zugdidi. I always like to deal with roadside sellers somehow and here we are having some delicious corn.

We should go into that cloudy area where SVANETI starts!

Lots of cows were everywhere and they were all cute

We still have 112 kms to Mestia ona very bad road...

The very first Swan Tower that we saw live...

We are cruising through very nice and thick forests..

Then after reaching the highest point, we started to descent and saw this beautiful dam, instantly. Such a cool place, would have been very nice to stay there one night.

Soon after this beautiful dam, bad roads has started. Altough we all like bad roads on a sick way , with the help of road construction, lots of rain and big trucks, road was really.... ehmmmm... time consuming.

Then it became dark as well.

"Ouch!"

"Argh!!!"

"WTF!!!"

but we are reaching Mestia, the HQ of the bandits after lots of mud pools and etc.

Not long ago Mestia was the capital of outlaws in Georgia. If I am not mistaken all has cleaned with huge governmental operation in 2001.

And, ladies and gentlemen, I would like to thank to my wife once again here of being such a great pillion, handling my torture called "road tripping".

We made to Mestia but still have long to go!

This is fantastic
Some years ago I was in that area and I loved it. Svanetia was the best part of the world I have seen so far.

Now you are complaining about bad road to Mestia. Well, in 2007 there actually was no road at all
Anyway, please continue
Greetings from poland

And Piotrek, sometimes it might be better to not have any road than some road construction, eh? Now they are building a conctrete road, rumors says it is just because of Saakashvili's summer house in Mestia.

And after that we countinued to Ushguli, Lentekhi and Kutaisi. Keep following.

We have reached Mestia but it was very dark. There were only some weak lights in some of the shops and after trying to not drop the bike in very muddy roads we entered one of the shops. We bought some things and asked for some help to find a place to sleep. We tried to communicate with a woman in English and Russian, who is running the grocery store. It wasn't very easy to understand each other but we managed to find a place. Mrs.Nato's house has been arranged for the stay but the funny thing is, the woman in the grocery store was speaking very fluent Turkish actually! We have found out this the next day!

We reached the house in the dark again and after a shower we slept like dead.

Mrs.Nato and her father in law. Supernice people!

After the dark introduction to Mestia, our view in the morning was like this. Simply stunning!

Beautiful hills all around, lovely forest and loats of Swan Towers makes it all surreal!

Then we had the chance to walk into one of these towers. Towers are dated back to 9th or 10th century and they were built up by the families for defending theirselves. They have floors in the towers, which included some supplies to survive for a while. And they were attacking down from the windows of the top floor by arrows.

Here is a short video from the roof of one tower.
