You even made the hot springs look good. Might have to check them out, now that I see they aren't always full of hippies...

Thanks! Yeah, you don't have to go nekid either. I brought shorts, told the guys if they were my wife it'd be different, so otherwise...ewwww. There were just a few 'hippies' there and only one guy swinging his,...well...you get it.

What I was surprised by was that Thursday afternoon there was a steady stream of SUV's enroute there from north and south. I can just imagine by Saturday it had to be pretty filled up. I'm sure the pools were busy by then.

It's the rule of nekkid people;

Those who are shouldn't be, and those who aren't, should.

Goler Step

Here is my short clip of successfully riding up the step.
http://youtu.be/5EzPi6qvx2U

You can compare it to what I posted earlier, from a ride in February 2010. At 8:32 or so, you can see the step there with no loose rocks below it.

It's going to be a really tough call for those tires, Joel. Or, did you already call out the winner?

I will have to finish my Day 2 & 3 RR after the 21st
Photobucket has given me the semi annual slap on the hands again
I only post enough pictures twice a year during Death Valley Noobs and Kings of the West
Can't justify the extra $$$ to avoid a time out for a few days
yep I'm a cheap ass bastard

EDIT:won't have much time to work on it til then anyways
Day 2 Titus was really good with a great group

I would disqualify myself as well to make a couple of FF's happy.

This week I read the entire thread again from top to bottom and really enjoyed it. An historic chronicle of a whole bunch of ADV peeps having a good time doing what they came here to do. Priceless.

Great to see so many nOObs and DV first-timers out exploring this fantastic area
Also impressed that a few pushed beyond the usual highlights and reached some out of the way places

(Work has been killin me lately, but I am finally getting a report put together...)

I've been going to Panamint, Saline, and Death Valleys for years and still find something new every trip. One of my goals for this year was to fill-in a few blanks and check out some previously noticed (but not yet explored by me) routes.

But first you gotta get there...

Day 1: (friday)

Hooked up with longtime riding buddy and (and OG nOOb) Design4D for the ride up to PSR on friday. This would be Michael's first time back on an adventure ride after a long hiatus and I think he was pretty stoked. Nothing epic planned for the run to PSR. Just ~200 miles of familiar desert dirt and pavement.

We peeled away from tarmac just outsided of Adelanto and continued north on fast dirt roads.

Welcome back wingman

They're expanding the solar plant out near Harper/Lockhart.

Taking a break next to the 'old' plant.

A favorite, the old telegraph route between 395 and Fremont Peak.

Everything was going well until ...

(Looks much worse than it was, but later turned out to be worse than imagined.)

Michael was leading at the time when a short section of hidden sand whoops caught him out. In the pic above, I had already stopped and checked on Michael. Alive and breathing (strained) with nothing apparently broken (wanted the helmet off, thats why it is on the ground). He had obviously got the wind knocked out of him pretty hard. Went back to my bike to remove gear and grab the first-aid kit (and a pic). We were gonna be here for awhile.

CSI of the tire tracks indicated a massive tank slapper with the rear tire bouncing way left, then right, then left, finally resulting in a highside. Bike took a big hit to the right side (bark busters and pannier rack heavily bent), but finished lying on the left. I spent about ~2 hrs putting the SE back together while Micheal collected his marbles. When it was time to roll, I suggested heading for home, but Michael voted to push on up to Randsburg for lunch and a situation assessment.

Moving on...

Lunch stop in Randsburg.

Well fed and somewhat refreshed, what do we do now? Though i'm sure Michael was still in some pain, he wanted to continue on up to PSR. From here on we would stick mostly to pavement.

Trona Rd crossing Teagle Wash.

Entering Panamint Valley.

Followed Nadeau Road to a short stretch of dirt (Slate Range Rd) back to PV Road.

We're here

Arrived PSR around 5pm and set up camp. While Michael went in search of expert medical advice (DannyG), I went across the street in search of more basic meds. Found Duy and Jo (?) on the patio already enjoying some brews. Nice chatting with you guys and thanks for the warnings about Tecopa hot springs

Whats goin on over there?

Camp914 (and a slightly bent SE).

Follow the path...

Friday night turned out to be the nicest night I have ever spent at PSR. Perfect temps, no wind whatsoever, slept on top of the sleeping bag staring at the stars. Almost made up for the saturday night payback

(Continued...)

Poor guy. OUCH!
What ended up 'worse than imagined'. Was he broken after all?

The light gets so flat out there during the middle of the day you can't see surface irregularities.
