Piston and cylinder installed.

Sorry for the slight fuzziness in the last two pics. I have to learn to keep more steady when shooting.

Lol. Well, the head has been quite the ordeal. He fixed a broken fin, is porting it, bought oversize valves but the distance from the keeper groove to the end where the tappet taps is way shorter than stock. He said we should be able to take that up with the screw adjuster. However (and I didn't even think about this until this morning ) with the RFVC sub rockers, that isn't possible. I know he knows that too--he just forgot. Lash caps maybe? The valve stem sits pretty far down in the aftermarket spring retainer.

Still a no go Christian. I need the extra length where the sub rocker contacts the valve, not where the screw adjuster is.

Was going to begin assembly this morning and realized both of the new head gaskets I had were for an XL600, so the bolt and dowel holes were too small.

Here's a few pics anyway. Tried to shoot some of the port work but just doesn't show up.

The top end is back together! Got oil coming out of the top banjo bolt. Did the air pressure deal then hand-kicked it over without the plug in (obviously ). Spent the afternoon chasing a no-spark issue--turns out it was the stator. Funny, as it ran fine prior to tear down. I guess electrical components can go bad just sitting. Stuck an XL600 stator in I had laying around and that cured it.

Getting closer.

The odds of that XL stator lasting are pretty slim. Better plan on getting a Rickey. BTDT...

If it lasts long enough to break the cam in I'll be happy. A Ricky's definitely in the plan--just gonna have to wait a bit.
