1974 TC185 Build

Ok, here is my first post. Been away from bikes for a number of years other than the MR50 that my boys grew up on. Recently I have acquired a few projects. One is my baby, a 1968 bonnie, I hope to get it on the street sometime this summer. The other one, which this thread is about, is a sweet little TC185 that my boss gave me. It runs but needs some tlc. I have new tires/tubes/rim strips, battery, seat cover, petcock, air filter, air boot, and carb spacer/gaskets. If it leaked fuel/sucked air, it did. lol

I found this site when doing a search and could not tear myself away. You guys are awesome and far beyond my skills, so I will pick your collective brains as I get this little bike on the road. Plans are to make it my daily commuter....all five blocks worth.

I live in the middle of nowhere (google earth even calls it that), but its also in the middle of cow country. I have permission to ride on a 13,000 acre ranch, but not with a 2 smoke. lol So I will keep my eyes open for a four smoker enduro.

So here is the TC185 as I found it, I have since fixed the minor dings in the tank and painted it. I have new decals in the works, and am installing the seat cover tonight.

Very cool

I have the exact same bike and I'm almost ready to return her to the road. That rear luggage rack is worth a mint, FYI. Cool bikes.

Glad to hear I am not the only one with a red headed step child. lol So how do you like the dual range tranny?

My updates are these,

1) Dont buy the cheapest seat cover, you get what you pay for....

2) My tank and side cover decals will ship monday...

3) The air filter element came in yesterday, so this weekend looks great for getting lots done. Hopefully pics by Sun. night.

4) Oh, looks like I just made a deal on a '78 Honda Hawk project.

I've not yet ridden it with the hi/low. I rode a TS in high school, so the TC is new to me. I'm excited to see how it works. The electric start is pretty cool and mine works, so that's nice. I'm waiting on a new chain and tires. The kick stand is also shear off on mine and I have to get it welded back on. Probably add new cables for throttle and brakes too, just to be safe. Very classy looking bike IMHO

IIRC low range on my TCs was LOOW. Like 4wd low in an F-350

sent from a device designed specifically to annoy scottrnelson YES I do know how to change it, just never bothered as I was too busy riding my motorcycle.

Sounds like its low enough I may never use it.

Ok, This is what I was able to get done last weekend. Disassembled the intake system and replaced everything while cleaning the carb.

Then put it all back as well as the oil resevoir and side panel.

After that I moved to the front end and installed the new tire/tube/rim strip.

Finally I assembled and mounted the tank.

Tuesday the new decals came in for the tank and side cover. After reading the instructions I found that they require being cleared over..............so off with the tank and side cover.

Hopefully I will get that done this weekend along with the rear tire.

Thanks for the interest guys !!

Any chance I could get you to take a picture of the battery wiring? Specifically the two positive terminal wires. Trying to understand were the fuse goes. Thanks

Here you go. Its inline with the smaller of the two red wires on the positive terminal.

Were they from Reproductions Decals?
