Mojave Desert - Ridgecrest Weekend

This was the first ride I went on with Mike Z. He's a cool Canadian cat with a library of ADV stories to tell. We headed out of the Bay Area on Thursday for two full days of riding.

Day one was at desert level

Day two was up in the western mountains above Ridgecrest

Me on the BRP, Mike on the KTM. Weather was good on Fri/Sat - wind pushed 50mph Sunday so good thing we didn't have a planned ride.

Headed out first to the Trona Pinnacles

They were shooting a Toyota commercial that day

Cool views

My favorite

Mike Z

The only shade within 100 miles

"I can see Alberta from here"

Met up with some ADV guys on a tour. Big Bike Style.

Off to other things...

I love big Joshua Trees. They only grow where it snows in the winter.

X-15 Monument is a must see

This was sweet until the meth kicked in

I guess you aren't supposed to go under the trestle

You want sand - you got sand

The BRP is a great bike for desert situations

It was in the low 90's so the faster the better

The Kanadian KTM

Hey - how bout some rocky steep stuff?

Nice views

All roads lead to nowhere....

Kicking up dust

Day 2 we went up into the mountains

attack of the gates

We took an alternate and received great views

Chimney Peak

The only water we saw

Ride with a view

We saw 3 vehicles all day on this dirt section

Nice cool breeze at elevation

Our route

Let's go there......

A bit of pavement to our next turn off - but the scene was great.

Water anyone? I wonder why Mono lake is empty?

Love the mountain trails

Big trees

Lunch of champions

Some fast dirt

down hill..

open, open open -

This was one of the most scenic tracks

NEVER GO HOME!!!!!!!!!

Do NOT brush against these while riding

If only everyday could look like this

Vids

The not so impressive hill....

Day 2 was the below areas. Some parts were not fully accessible, and we did do some U turns but it was really fun.

Ummm, I sort of heard there might be a little problem getting Mike back into the U.S.

Old High school memories

I went to High school there in early 80's. We used to park our bikes at the back of the gym and hit the dez after school(and sometimes during school. Your pics are great memories of riding there other than the 22 tickets I received between 17 and 19. I painted every fire hydrant in Ridgecrest to work off the tickets.....not fond of those memories though. Thanks for the post makes me want to head back and do some riding.

Great writeup Chris and it was good times riding with you.

The Trona Pinnacles were very cool - you could just imagine the Planet of the Apes happening right there.

Got a couple of videos of the BRP in action!

Chris makes haste! On Canebrake road.

Chris through the "Land of Chocolate" - actually Joshua trees.

Chris jumps "the Hill"

Next time we need to check the Husky monument, F-22 crash site and other desert gems.
