Laugh New Garmin GPS Systems - Update

I started a thread a little while ago about new Garmin that is coming. Well I have a little more information now. The model is the STP i2 and i3. They look a lot like the C330 or 320 but do not have touch screens. The i2 is monochrome and comes with base map only. The i3 is color and comes preloaded with software. The both come with 128mb card (not sure which type but it will not be a garmin card most likely and SD card) The controls are very simple.

The software is also very much like the C330 and C320 models including the 3D guidance view. The i2 will be $349 and the i3 will be $449. The STP stands for Streetpilot if you were wondering. The will be shipping in May.

Now for some more cool news. The are also coming out with a Rino with color screen and the guts of the Vista C so this means autorouting in a Rino. Do not now much more

Now even more exciting. The 60 series is going to come with expandable memory ie SD cards in December. It will have enhanced processor and rummored an updated base map with more detail then current base maps. This may be the one to wait for in my book. I like the format of the 60 series and the ability to drop in a 1GB SD card and load her up with maps is very intriging. If the new Rino came with memory expansion I would be all over that as well.

Hope this helps. Keep and eye on the Garmin site.

Any info on a new Quest - possibly with more memory like the European version? Dan

I had mentioned in my previous post that the quest is getting its memory doubled, did not say expandable or not, and it will have enhanced capabilities with Audio instructions. Now it says right turn in 1 mile. It will say right turn in 1 mile on East Main. Everything new will have enhanced processor speed. Should be a good thing. The should of added an SD card in my opinion but since I am not sure maybe they did.

I douct if that will be true.

The current Quest cannot even hold more than one language at the same time, and now they want to store millions of words extra in the quest, just to pronounce roadnames?

I've received several software updates for my Quest in the last week, and they were all related to the voice and audio.

We are not talking multiple languages we are talking about street names. I got this from the Sportsman Warehouse. They had powerpoints showing all the new models with notes about the new features. The notes were creptic but the gave a specific example pretty much like what I gave.

What it did not mention is memory card slot. I doubt this because that would require retooling the case and that is expensive. Software and circuit board changes could be less expensive if they are applying them to multible models like the 2610 and 2620.

I am also a little skeptical about release date since these were hand written notes on the powerpoints.

any word on if the new 60's will add a "route around a detour" feature to the autonav? the current lack of that feature is my biggest complaint with the unit. memory being the second.

Any idea if there are any redesignes/updates planned for 276c?

I'm planning to get one, but not sure if I should wait a month or two to see what happens.

I'm looking at the TomTom Naviagtor 5 due to come out this month. Looks like a great system and a lot of flexibility.

Anyone have experience with TomTom?
