GPS maps of Mexico?

I may take a solo trip to Mexico in June and think my GPS would come in handy, since my spanish is very limited. I have a Garmin 76c. Has anyone used a program and was pleased? I hope to stay on paved roads. I have a friend who lives in Tlapacoyan, Veracruz. Thanks

I have traveled in Mexico a bit, and as far as I know, there are no detailed GPS maps available for Mexico. THe Garmin World Map is about the best you can get. I have several Mexican Road Atlases that are very good. I would be willing to sell you one. cbx1980@comcast.net

Garmin World Map

I too have the Garmin 76C and have used the Garmin World Map info for 3 different trips into Mexico. It does a fair job of letting you know where you are. The most lacking info is information on the large cities.

I found the World Map info great for the paved roads.
The world map has about 2 levels more detail than the base map.

I also used a Atlas by Guia Roji.

Is the Garmin World map of Mexico detail better than the detail you get with the base map that comes on the 76c?

Thanks, if I go I think I could get by with the Garmin World Map and I'm sure there would no issues with compatibility. I am going to stay away from any large cities.

Are you sure ?

In Australia, WorldMap is almost exactly the same as the Pacific basemap.

I returned a month ago from a 3 week ride in MX. The Worldmap of Mexico has somewhat better coverage than the basemap of Mexico. Though both have some really bad errors such as showing Rt. 40 from Mazatlan to Durango 30 or 40 miles north of its actual location. Dan

If you don't find the software that will work try the basic paper map
AAA Auto Club has free Baja California maps (To customers)that is accurate and that I have used for years. I know it's not trick latest a greatest way but will get you through Baja and back...

Also, stop at a nice Pemex with a convienient store. I bought a great map book that they kept hidden under the counter. It was the 4th Pemix I had asked for a map.... Don't go unprepared. The freaking roads are confusing as sh!t, lots of "bear right or left or continue straight on to stay on hwy 101"
