ATGATT for me, there is not a single good reason not to be.

All The Gear All The Time.

I also take it to mean a heightened alertness and defensive/offensive riding.

As for the folks taking ATGATT literally, well I must agree that if someone tried to wear all the gear and ride a bike they would probably die in the effort.

There have been, what, hundreds of tons of gear manufactured over the past century at least. Put all this gear on and the amount of "all the time" you have left could probably be measured in seconds.

But to suppose that something as absurd as this is what is being talked about, is, well, absurd.

Let's look at how the acronym ATGATT is being tossed about more as a metaphor for "wearing gear that will mitigate the negative effects of many aspects found in a collision or other get-off, but which will in no way guarantee safety" and accept how

AT-GATT is easier to pronounce than is

WGTWMTNEOMAFIACOOGOBWWINWGS.

If, and only if, the literalists can accept the term ATGATT as "an attitude of collision survival" can they move to the next logical plane that one can manifest collision survival by covering the parts of one's skin that they would prefer to keep (i.e.; avoiding the pain of growing it back), and, by placing padding over the bones that they would prefer to provide at least a fighting chance to avoid bruising or breaking in the unpredictable world of physics at play mixed with people with keys to vehicles.

It is a leap for some to grasp this. I know. But I figured that the repeated questions along the literal bent deserved an explanation for how the rest of the folks keep using the term ATGATT the way we do.

Along those lines: If and only if we can agree that the term "overrated" is a matter of OPINION and not some empirically provable right or wrong, will this thread ever end.

You ATGATT proponents are absolutely nuts for continuing on arguing for what 99.999% of the people already know.

Trolls, the only way they go away is if you stop feeding them...

That's the funny thing to me. "ATGATT Proponent" doesn't feel quite like a good fit. I'm my own ATGATT proponent, but I really don't care what others choose to wear. I do care that they have the opportunity to make informed choices.

I think the trolls think I'm trying to convince someone. I'm just balancing some information with other info that differs.

The way I use internet forums for finding things, I know how much I prefer finding a balanced thread to read about this bike or that accessory.

Gear, and the multitude of reasons to consider it in all, or in part, is like that too. The issue being discussed is often clouded with emotion when the facts speak volumes to anyone who will look.

Ego and machismo are the style I've seen a few people I know wearing to their detriment, with and without gear with equal results. It is good to be confident, and, it is foolish to turn a blind eye to the potential for injuries such as those found in motorcycling.

I know I'd never win an argument over any of this. There is no argument to win. It is about choice, and choosing wisely. With or without gear.

Doing it wisely is what's important. Gear can't protect against testosterone-induced stupid.

Regardless, folks are reading the thread. It is amusing at times.

It's a quite sad sight how some guys have to lie to themselves about atgatt so they can claim they are, while in reality only being motgatt or less.
Just accept what you are and what you are not, instead of trying to change the meaning of well defined words.

It really is quite amusing how some people have tried to justify the paradox to themselves.

Guys admit it, you want to squid but you want also to be a "better" rider than those squids. Doublethink.

Is WR still posting?

Oh, yeah, I see his "Ignored" post there, copied in VertC's.

When I see WR's place in the thread I too wonder, ever so briefly, what stroke of brilliance he's come up with? Then, I get over the curiosity in short order. If he rides anything like he constructs sentences ....

Shining beacons to the world those two are.

It would seem that WR has taken on the responsibility of determining the meaning of words for the world, and VertC is calling ATGATT riders squids. The same useful and productive comments we would expect from them in their quest to justify their marginal contributions in the thread.

Their motto is, "We are unable to deal with logic, math, and documented facts, so let's just lash out!"
