Moulin6801,

Swamp's ride report inspired me to book a ride of my own in Peru (well, that and I'd always wanted to see Machu Picchu).

Alex Luna, former MX champion and owner of Peru Moto Tours is highly recommended. He is based in Cusco.

Here is a short video from the trip, a link to the ride report is in my signature line:

Cheers,

.

We rented bikes from these guys:
http://www.perumotors.com

Great guys, they knew a lot of local info, maps, parts, food, etc. Based out of Arequipa. We flew into Lima, they picked us up, got us to hotel where the bikes were waiting. Fairly reasonable $$.

Went to Peru earlier this year, didnt do much riding because there was so much to see off the bike. Used Peru Motor Tours to rent bikes one day and Quads the next. Took the train to get around and a few shuttles and taxis. Great country get to Machu Picchu early before the tourists, and be sure to hike up waynapicchu...you wont regret it. Also stop in Norton Rats in Cusco.....great place to watch the sun set and life pass you by.

My son and I went with Toby at Around the Block Moto Adventures last year. We had a great time with Toby and Luke. I posted a video of the trip as well here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TssoztB2anA

Tour Peru on rented bikes

My buddy is trying to talk me into renting bikes in Peru. We want to visit Machu Pichu and have some time to ride the twisties without being in too big of a rush & for a reasonable price.

Any ideas of an itinerary. Fly into where, estimated time to rent bikes & go to Machu Pichu, estimated time left to play & get bikes back. Is 10 days doable?

I took a tour of Peru with MotoQuest about 6 years ago.

http://www.motoquest.com/guided-motorcycle-tours/

It is a guided tour meaning that they provide the bikes, guides, a mechanic, hotel accommodations, etc. I would recommend them if you are looking for that type of experience. We spent a day at Machu Picchu and also a day at Nazca. If you want to go off on your own, it would be better to rent a bike rather than sign up for a guided tour.

I would suggest devoting a day to Machu Pichu and Wayna Pichu. get there early and walk around as much as possible before the crowds get there. 10 days in Peru is enough and there is plenaty to do.

I'll second riding with Toby, he knows Peru well, his bikes are all well maintained and he can put together just about any ride you'd like. Besides that Toby and his wife Sara are excellent people, really nice to be around

I love that feeling. We did that in Belize. Got there early, in a solid rainstorm, and it was eerie to be alone in the silence of the pyramids surrounded by rain forest.

Some day I want to Machu Pichu as well.
