How about a race to CK with a mini-bike class and a Chinese scooter class and a spending limit of no more than $500 for the bike and any mods.

Thumb Ok !!

Thanks for this report! I had read awhile back the route had been "smoothed out", and we had planned to ride it in a few weeks, but I was still slightly concerned, with us being "older" folks, with smaller (225) bikes. Now we can be fully confident and have a wonderfully-nice-not-peeing-in-our-pants ride !

I want in on this one! Which day is your one day? On second thought, before we hijack this thread, PM me and AZTom or start a new thread so we can have it all figured out by the time you get here!

I wonder if my son would mind if I borrowed his CRF50 . Poor little thing probably wouldn't make it up the first couple of hills.

Yardstick and I have been scheming on his idea. I'll let him give you guys the pitch and we'll see if there is enough interest to do this. Hint, it involves small engines, cheating, and a trophy for bragging rights!!!

I was thinking about a 150cc limit on scooters and a 50cc limit on mini- or pit-bikes. A lot of pit bikes are up to about 125cc though, so maybe a higher limit would make sense. I was also thinking of a $500 limit on the bike and any upgrades to keep the costs down and hopefully keep everything more evenly matched. That would exclude anyone who already owns a pit bike or scooter that has cost more, so maybe we need a couple of classes -Budget and Open? We could do a little racing series on these things if it's popular enough. CK? 4-Peaks? Coke Ovens? An extreme enduro at Sycamore and/or Boulders?

Should we open a thread in West to discuss the specifics and gauge interest?

Personally, I think it would be a lot of fun but I don't think physically, I could make it for more than a few miles on my sons CRF50... the thing is just too small... stock. Plus, fuel capacity would be a definite issue. It only has a capacity of .7 gals with a .2 reserve. You would probably have to have somebody (or several somebodies) volunteer as a rolling gas tank or send somebody ahead to camp out in one spot for the day as a refueling station.

It's only about 30 miles from where the dirt starts on Castle Hot Springs Rd up to Crown King via the back way. A 50 should make it that far, shouldn't it?

I dunno. Maybe with a kid sized rider. I've never ridden it further than about 1/2 a mile but I would imagine it would really start sucking the gas with an adult rider, climbing up to CK, at altitude. Make it part of the challenge.

I've found CK on a map. It shows a few ways in, so which way did you go in? From Lake Pleasant? From highway 17 near Black Canyon? Kirkland Junction?

I'm guessing from Lk Pleasant...

I'd be more inclined to go find an old used something at a good price rather than put unnecessary wear and tear on my sons pride and joy.

yeah I was around that way about a month ago with Reidy and we were really disappointed.

Oh well. I'm sure mother nature will take its course and eff it up (a good thing) for us again.
