Loop around the Oquirrh's
Went for a nice little rainy day ride on Saturday. Left Salt Lake via I80, stopped for a quick shot at SaltAir (cheesy amusement park thing)
Then turned down SR36 thru Tooele (past the US Army Chemical Weapons Depot) towards Vernon. Some nice 2 lane roads through the countryside. Didn't bargain for this, though:)
Thoughfully placed refreshment stand.
Looking a bit dark, but only hit some light showers.
Reflective decal set from Applied Graphics. Looks kinda cool, glows brilliant white when hit by headlights at night. Also have chevron strips on my panniers.
Old mining headstock near the town of Eureka.
Looking west from the same place. Saw tons of dirt bikes on trailers here. There are dirt roads that criss cross the West Desert all the way to Nevada, and you can hook up with the old Pony Express traill and cross all the way to California on dirt. Definitely going to explore a lot here this summer.
Historic town hall in Eureka.
And the obligatory mining museum.
Now back to the east with the southern Wasatch Front in view. Lots of nice twistys on this road before you get the flats.
Nice view of the Timpanogos Mtns.
Then back north on SR68 on the west side of Utah Lake toward home. Utah Lake & Provo, UT on the other side. Sorry about the washed out sky, couldn't fix it in this one.
All in all a nice little 175 mile loop. TONS of dirt roads to explore west of Vernon & Eureka. Any SLC riders who want to get together and check them out this summer PM me.
