R100GS fix up....things to do....

Hi Guys,

I am going to be doing some much needed maintenance on the ol' R100GS this weekend. Push rod tube seals, carb rebuild for starters. I just thought before I tore into it, I would check and see if there is any suggestions of things to do or to look for as long as I am in the top end.

I have read everything there is on both the Snowbum and Gunsmoke sites (thanks Guys !!)

All info greatly appreciated as I am a first time Airhead owner and, although I have wrenched on lots of cars and heavy equipment, this will be the first for a motorcycle!

those guys have it wrapped up pretty tight. Hard to find something they havent covered..

Try using the search engine here for the same topics, to get some further reading material.

I take it you bought the Bing carb rebuild kit?

my pushrod tubes have been rusting for the longest time and yet i don't replace them. why? because they're leak-free and more importantly, so are my cylinder bases. and knowing my luck, i don't want to upset anything there by their removal and re-installation

but i'm totally different with my /2. only because the pushrod tubes are on top and plain visible
