OH, I am just so JEALOUS! The photos are absolutely beautiful. Now I know how you felt on my trip. I like being the person on the trip more than the person looking at the photos.

Started down the beautiful Oregon coast yesterday. We didn't know what to expect. It was great to say the least.

Next up was Cape Perpetua. An easy turnoff to miss, and we did. Luckily Julie had me turn around. The two mile climb was nice and twisty with moss draped trees. Up top we found some very nice, short hiking trails.

From there we saw that the coast was showing more and more sand. We found our way to Oregon Dunes. We rode in and talked to a nice retired couple that were hosts there. They have been all over the country in various RVs. Not a bad life.
They highly recommended that our loaded down rig NOT go play in the sand. On the way out I had to try it just a little. Sure enough, the sidecar put the rig sideways when we hit about 10 inches of fluff. One quick yank on the Raceway hand shifter and we had both rear wheels spinning and we were out in two seconds. No need to try out the factory shovel.

As we stopped for gas I noticed that my older brother's chain of auto parts stores must have expanded into Oregon.

A number of months ago I was reading a RR on ADVRider and saw another Inmate had stopped by a local custom painter for some work. I had PMed Patrick46 and asked about getting some lettering done when we passed by. He said he'd love to and to let him know when we'd be by. We arranged for me to call him and he's come meet us at the local McDonald's and guide us to his shop. As we got near his place our shitty cell didn't have reception. I stopped by a pay phone and called him. I could hear him but he couldn't hear me. This went on over a few calls until he said "I'm guessing this is Tom. I'll be at McDonalds in a few minutes."

Three minutes later he was there. He guided us to his shop.

Patrick hand built this bike, and I mean everything. He showed us pictures of others he's done and you wouldn't believe the talent this man has. I wish I had taken some pictures of the rods and semis he has painted. Simply amazing work.

He laid out the lettering to get started.

Patrick starting on his magic.

The semi finished artwork. I didn't know what to expect, but we are thrilled with it. Thank you Patrick! It was great to meet you and a pleasure shooting the shit with you.

Here is the finished product. Patrick's web address is: www.artworks-unlimited.com. He is in Coos Bay, OR.

Knecht!

I'm really enjoying your trip here, if you keep this up you will have a huge following and a great record of this trip. How many miles have you got under your belt now and how are the tires holding up?

KNECHT! No idea of miles. The odometer is in KMs. It's probably less than you think. There are too many great spots to stop at. Two tires are like new. The rear is about 1/3 worn. I'm told this 2010 has some of the last of the Russian tires that sometimes wear quickly. I can't complain with the weight I've put on that little 4:00 series tire. I'm sure I will come home with no spares strapped on the back.
More pics in a minute. You will love the old fishing boats here in Port Orford.

I'll have to look up the name of the town we had dinner at.
The waves crashing at the mouth of their harbor were huge. I can't imaging getting a boat in there.

Julie is getting the hand of the ADV tradition of taking a few pictures of the food. No ADV salutes though.

We spent last night in Port Orford. Not too great of a motel, but the views more than made up for it needing a little TLC.

This blurry shot is from our room.

Looking back towards our place for the night.

They have to use these cranes to lift the boats in and out EVERY day!

Most of the trailers they use are made of 12X12s or larger and have what looks to be WWI era truck axles U bolted to them. This one is one of the few metal trailers.

I hope to get some shots of the boats getting craned in this morning. The sun is just rising. I've been watching them put them in for the past hour while I wrote this. More later.
