Throttling UP

I have planned some trips for the riders that go to our church.

I am starting this thread so we can converse and keep in contact a little easier, hopefully.
And to see where we have been, and where we are going.

I had started this big long dissertation about what we believe, but it just kept getting longer and longer !

Let's just leave it at:
"We want to ride our motorcycles and be an encouragement to one another."
Not necessarily in that order.

So here we go with:

I need to work on that pic !

================================================== ========

April 14, 2012 - pages 1-2 *Buena - Somers Point - Northfield - Port Republic - New Gretna - past Batsto - Hammonton - Buena
June 9, 2012 - page 2 *Buena - Head of the River - Port Norris - Bridgeton - Greenwich - Centerton - Buena

First trip is actually tomorrow !

April 14, 2012

Starting at the WAWA in Buena at the intersection of Routes 40 & 54.

I have planned a short introduction so we all know what we are doing,
as best as I know anyway !

That will be at 11:30.
We pull out of the parking lot at 12:00 NOON.
Anyone/Everyone is welcome.

The basic route is Buena - Somers Point - Northfield - Port Republic - New Gretna - past Batsto - Hammonton - Buena.
A 100 mile loop.

If anyone wants to join us you can meet us at the beginning or somewhere along the way, if you can find us.

We are stopping at Nick's Custom Cycles at 4:00 PM and then afterwards at Mr. Bill's at 5:00 PM.
There you can get some ice cream, a giant eclair, or dinner, and we will also have a short devotional.

Can't wait till tomorrow.
Looks like the weather is going to be terrific.

Started out the ride with 14 bikes with 22 people on them.

Lots of two-up riding.
Nice turn out.

I was not sure how many people to expect.
I never put out a sign up sheet.
I figured who ever showed up, showed up to ride !

The weather was beautiful.
Clear and sunny.
Started out in the 60's and went up to almost 80 degrees.

I give my pre-ride speech and we our on our way !

On our way to our first stop we had an incident.
Nothing torn or broken.
Probably a bruise or two and some scrapped paint.
Most of us have been there before.
I thought he was headed home because of bike problems.
When we got to our next stop I see he was still with us !

He stayed with us the whole trip !
That's the way to stick it out.

If there were injuries it would have been a different story of course.

We press onward with a little more trepidation.
We passed Summers Mansion at the construction zone for the new bridge into Ocean City and go to
our first stop about a half mile from there at a monument for a Sand Fort built here for the War of 1812.

We took up both sides of the little side street.

Nice place to just relax.

Next stop was Jeremiah Leeds grave.

Located in a traffic circle in Northfield.
This is on the mainland opposite Margate.

Come on, how many people do you know buried in a traffic circle?

Only in New Jersey !

He is considered the first full time resident of what is now Atlantic City on what was then Absecon Island.
There was a larger cemetery here at one time but the other interments were moved to Estell Manor.
I guess he was left here because of its proximity to Absecon Island.

Our only run through multiple traffic lights and four lane road traffic was getting to our next stop.
I guess it is just unavoidable in New Jersey !

Chestnut Neck Battle Monument in Port Republic, NJ.

This anchor is new from the last time I was out here.

They had two genealogies posted here from prominent men who served here.
This one happens to be the family descendants of the Jeremiah Leeds whom we had just stopped at !

The Revolutionary War Battle here was October 6, 1778.
You can find some more information about this monument on this link.

Our next stop was a big hit !

OK, its not much to look at.
Just a roadside curiosity.

This is/was a Renault Winery bottle advertisement from the 1930's/40's.
The Renault name was painted over years ago.

They currently have some new advertisement on here.
Apparently Renault built their billboards on private property.
I am guessing the owners did not approve and painted this one white.

There are four of these in New Jersey.
The two on the White Horse Pike, aka Route 30, still have the Renault Winery paintings on them.
One is in Egg Harbor City, which is where the winery is, and one is in Hammonton.
The fourth is in Bayville and is in the same state as this one here in New Gretna.

I chose this side road to avoid traffic !

Admittedly I must say that about half the people sitting here had to go to the bathroom.
So I added a stop at Batsto to accomplish that requirement.

This is the Batsto Mansion viewed from the parking lot.

Some people were famished and had a hot dog from the cart that was there in the parking lot.
And I forgot to take a picture !

Someone said it looked like an eraser.
He just happens to be a teacher, so I guess he would know.
Someone else said, it also tasted like an eraser.
How he knew I did not ask !
They both enjoyed them though ! ! !

Next stop was Nick's Custom Cycles in Williamstown, NJ.

We found a bike for Mike.

Brand new 2010 for $4,999.

Imagine a motorcycle with this fork on it !

Gotta be 10 feet long ! ! !

I always enjoy the museum upstairs.

This is the downstairs where they sell parts and clothing and everything.

Then our final stop before heading back to Buena was Mr. Bill's.

And I told you the eclairs were big.

OK, HUGE !

I gathered everyone together to gather information for our future rides.
I had jammed this one in after the Men's Breakfast.
Apparently there were lots of things going on this day.
Singles trip to Washington DC, Men's Breakfast, Twice as Nice Womens Clothing Exchange, the Young Adults Living Out Loud concert ministry thingy.

The consensus for future rides seemed to be to have ours on a full day with a lunch stop in the middle.

Our first ride at 100.4 (official miles ) was just long enough for our initial ride together.

We did a short devotional.
I handed out the official Throttling UP Inaugural Ride bookmark.

Philippians 3:14
"I press toward the mark, for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus."

(Don't worry fellow ADV riders, I have one planned for our ride next month too ! )

We had some dinner.
With some huge helpings of french fries.
And headed for home.

See you later Mr. Happy Half-wit.
