So I forgot about this until this morning, but that was good as now theres fun to be had.
After that it was an inning of strikes
Strike one, thought we were leaving at 9. Attendant said I didnt miss you by much.
So I'll catch up to you... heading to the shore right? About the mall it hit me that 40E wasn't anywhere near 47!
Cape May here I come via the parkway, no fun there strike3.
Visited the point, tower, and light house multiple times between 10:30 & 11:30 figuring I was ahead of you - strikeout.
Small town how hard can it be to find a church with bikers? Lots of churches, no bikers!
Feeling down maybe meandering home on unfamiliar backroads will cheer me up. I seen Tuckahoe & Estell Manor 2x each.
Did not feel like I was riding around in circles when doing it.
Thanks for getting me out for 205mi even if I missed the group.
Hope yaall had fun :-)

Sorry about all of that enormiss.

At the time you were down there we were trying to get one of our riders bikes fixed.
We were stuck on the side of Route 9 just north of 109 for at least an hour.
So you probably road right around us !!!

I'm glad you had a nice ride anyway !

Customary Photos: ....and Commentary !

The night before our ride a huge storm came sweeping across the United States like a giant xerox machine.

The storm cleared my area with plenty of time to meet my friend at the Atsion Ranger Station.
The roads were mostly dry, which amazed me.
We road to Buena and met up with only one other bike !

Seems that everyone else chickened out !!!

We headed out Route 40 and made a right onto Route 50.
We stopped in Tuckahoe to pick up another rider and his wife, so now there were 8 of us.
Took some back roads through Woodbine down to Dennis Township and picked up Route 47 South.

We get off of Route 47 and head down Route 9.
We get onto Route 109 and I do not see our new rider behind us.
We pull over and wait for them....
And wait for them.......
One of us goes back to look for them.
I get a call to come back about 3/4 mile.

There they sit on the side of the road with a good amount of tools out and working frantically !

We stand and talk, those of us who know nothing about motorcycle mechanics while he works on his bike.
Nothing seems to work.
He had just bought the bike and this was it's maiden run.
Or maiden breakdown !

He finally calls AAA and they come out and rescue them.

I didn't feel bad taking pictures because his wife was taking them too !

Anyway, they get situated.

And off they go.
Hoping to join us a little later after he could trouble shoot it better and put some parts on that he thought were bad.

So now it is 11:30 and several phone calls later.
So we head right for lunch.
We were only 1.5 miles from Calvary Chapel Cape May.

Our chefs.

They made us a great lunch.

We sat and talked and ate.
We had a great devotional from Pastor Dave from Psalm 46.
Thank you once again Dave.

So off we go to the Cape May Lighthouse.

Purple Martin bird houses to keep the bug population down.

The museum was open so we took a look around in there.

They had stuff inside and out.
Inside they had taxidermied animals from the area, Artifacts from as early as the 1700's, maps, data, pictures and of course souvenirs !

We took a walk down to the beach.
Or more like up and over the dunes on what we called "Cattle Chutes"

Off to the left was part of what is left of WWII Fort Miles gun batteries.

For some reason we thought there use to be two here.
I don't know what they would have done with the other one !!!

We have a nice chat with a cool breeze blowing and the sun hiding behind some clouds.

You can see how much sand had washed up on the ramp we were on and this old fence.
Most likely from Hurricane Sandy.

Then we head back to our bikes and get ready to leave.

While I take more pictures !

We head down to Cape May Point and see what is left of the Concrete Ship SS Atlantus.

The information sign was gone.

There were a lot of little crabs down by the water.

The Horseshoe Crabs were very young.
That is my boot at the bottom.

Then I have one more stop I want to make before we leave.

That is one of the Fire Control Towers for Fort Miles.

I had been here a couple of months before but did not see what was behind it.

The other unfortunate rider was not able to rejoin us.

We had a great time of fellowship on this ride,
even while being stranded on the side of the road.

Thanks to all who made it out.

And off we went on a nice long journey home.

Good stuff Steve. Went down there on as much dirt as I could find in my TNJT 2011 ride. One day I'll make it on the street bike. I'd like to get out on one of these rides this season too.

MAY 18, 2013
The Third Saturday of May.

RIDE TO TOMS RIVER, NJ

Someone among us wants to visit the White Castle Hamburger Joint in Toms River.
So we decided to make that our May ride.

Meet at the Buena WAWA as usual around 8:15 and fill your gas tank.
Leave the Parking Lot at 8:30.

First destination will be the Casino Pier in Seaside Heights and view the Roller Coaster that fell into the Atlantic Ocean during Hurricane Sandy. Not that we want to be devastation seekers, but more to see something that has become an icon from that devastating storm and to always remember what happened.
I plan on taking some nice back roads up to Seaside Heights.

From there we will go to lunch at the White Castle.
They are still there and open. They seem to be one of the last ones still open for business anywhere near us.
If hamburgers are not your thing, don't worry, there are several other food places close by. There is a Subway just a block away. A Boston Market and a Perkins across the street and a WAWA just up from those. So there are plenty of other options, but not all are easy to get to and back to the White Castle. If you want to eat somewhere else look it up before we leave so you know where you are going and how to get back to us, and to make sure those places are still open.

I had planned on stopping at Whitesbog Village on the way home.
They were New Jersey's largest Cranberry producer in the early 1900's and they also cultivated the first Blueberry Bushes for commercial use.
Looking at our schedule I will probably not stop here because it will put us home too late.

So, from Toms River we will probably just take Route 70 to Route 206 to Route 54 to Buena.

Total Trip is 150 Miles.

Emails reminders will be sent to those who gave us your Email address.

See you bright and early in a week and a half!

I had heard something about that the other day and looked it up yesterday.
They were supposed to start taking it apart yesterday and they thought it would take four days.

Now I need to look for something else to go see !

Sorry...just saw this. Nope, no beach riding. Plenty of sand to ride by me, so no need.

Here are the pictures from out last ride.

A small group once again.
And all of our wives abandoned us.
They had other things to do.

We took back roads from Buena to Chatsworth. Mostly CR 563. Then Savoy Blvd. to Whiting, and whatever other names it changes into on the way. Then CR 530 to Toms River to Huddy Park.

The first thing you see is this replica of a Revolutionary Fort with a sad history.

There was a boat show going on on the other side of the Toms River.

Yes, there is actually a Toms River river!

The bridge is dedicated to the original settler of Toms River, which is where the Tom came from.

They were still setting up tents and this one had a familiar name on it.

So back to the other side where our bikes are parked.

We crossed the parking lot to see a giant 15 ton anchor that is located in this park and I passed this bumper sticker.

Which I thought was pretty funny !

OK, it's not very nice, but funny none the less!

There is also a replica paddle boat here that is used for parties.

They were putting food on it while we were there.

There was a torpedo across the way.

Then off to our Lunch Destination.

We made fun of the small hamburgers.

We had to harass the guy who dreamed up this destination !

We thought this urge came pretty fast !!!

This is what happens if you eat here too much !

So I knew the South Jersey Tag-O-Rama Tag was near here.

It was only two miles and they guys humored me.

We got it and headed to Seaside Heights to see the Rollercoaster in the Atlantic Ocean.

I saw a few of my friends.

These are from Casino Amusement Pier where the Rollercoaster sat on their pier for years.

This is where the Rollercoaster sat for just over six months.

We knew they were going to take it away the week before we were going to be here, but we decided to have a look anyway.
It sat directly ahead in the ocean.

They were fixing up the boardwalk and replacing the rides.

They even repaved the road along the beach in front of Casino Pier.

Then back to the bikes and head out.

These pictures are from my ride earlier this year.
The area closest to Seaside Heights was pretty well fixed and cleaned up.
The areas further north were still a bit of a shambles with houses still where they were after the storm in October of 2012.

We took 35 up to 88 in Point Pleasant Beach and took that over to 70 and headed South. Hooked up with Rotue 206 which turns into Route 54 into Buena.

We hit a few rain sprinkles along the way, but it never lasted long.
And we got home safe and dry.

JUNE 15, 2013
The Third Saturday of June .

Sorry to take so long to post this.
Our next ride was scheduled for next Saturday June 15, 2013.
I have been contemplating where to go with all of the other things going on at our
church and it being the day before Fathers Day I decided to do something off the cuff.

My current plan is to ride out to Whitesbog Village near Pemberton.
There are some nice roads out there and I know a decent diner we can eat at.
So, let's meet at the Buena WAWA and leave at 8:30 as usual and have a nice ride.

If we get a better idea we might do that instead.
Like I said, off the cuff !

Leave the Parking Lot at 8:30.

The NEW Plan for Saturday
JUNE 15, 2013.

The two of us that I know are going decided to take a ride to Lancaster, PA.
Now don't get upset if you have other plans.
We will for sure be riding out there again.

So, we will leave Buena at 8:30 as usual.
Ride some nice back roads, once we get past the Delaware Memorial Bridge and Newark, DE.

I am looking for a decent place to have lunch.
Perhaps Millers, or Good N' Plenty or some other "Family" Style Buffet place.

Around 190 mile round trip, and probably more if we sight see.
But it may be crowded on a Saturday and also being the day before Fathers Day.

I can guarantee no one will be on the roads I planned coming back.
Until we hit Route 1 !
