Oil filter sleeve, how far can the thing move any way?
So a couple years ago on a road trip, the oil filter cover started leaking out of the blue. Removed the gasket and went with one shim and 'o' ring.
It developed the same leak last weekend, measured at 4.01mm so added another shim.
Thinking I should carry spare shims with me. So, how far can the thing move any way?
Bike is a '81 r80 G/S with 77,000 miles.
It's eight and a half gallons of gas; and an engine. What more do you need?-- BMW R80G/S

My understanding is that it can move way too far - sometimes quickly enough for catastrophic failure.
I think Anton has a fix by installing a longer custom made cannister. I couldn't find it on his site, so it may be someone else on here that does it.
