Noah, although the riding footage was a gas and the interview with Travis was hysterical, my favorite part of the latest video is the way the woman suddenly starts swinging her hammer in perfect timing with the man in the repair shop, seemingly without any verbal communication.

Keep up the great work and most importantly keep having fun.

In 2009 there was a Yamaha dealer in HCM, not far from the backpackers area, selling R1's, Fazers and other big Yamahas. Or so I "remember"... Saw a Ducati Monster too.

Curious

Love the story, been following since Oregon. How did the scooter run and the clutch work after the overhaul?

Yes this was a black smith next door to the repair shop. We were quite impressed. In the video they are making a knife.

There are a few big bikes around. But you need a 2nd licence to get them. And this is almost impossible to do. Every dealer I saw just had scooters. They didn't even have "small" motos like XRs and such.

It worked great. In the morning there few loose bolts. The footpegs and shifter were loose. But after that was sorted, the bike ran great. All the way to Phnom Penh where I sold it to $100.

Great vid! Adds a lot to the RR, this is a great one.

A few years ago, I dreamt of riding my XR to Baja...

Then last winter I survived one of life's train wrecks while reading Ulyses thread to Argentina, and decided to do that 'one day'

JDowns...what can you say? He's the man.

Just caught up on this thread. BAM road? Road of Bones? I had plenty of history in school but never heard of these. Started googling, Looked at your pics, watched the vids... and I'm thinking why not ship to Africa from BA and go RTW?

May as well. Stuck in the Bakken for 54 months and then I'm gone. Already sold my stuff. I'm taking a KLR.

You mean KTM right? Seriously reconsider your choice. Please.

Not liking the KTM?
I was discussing the perfect RTW bike with another fellow RTW rider.
Seems like there is not one made.
What would you pick as your perfect bike if you had to do it all over again?

I'm pretty sure he's actually trying to get you off the KLR and onto a KTM :)

I can list about 20 bikes, including a Honda C90 that I would rather take around the world then a KLR. For the love of god people, quit buying these bikes. If you want a "budget" ADV bike. Get a DRZ400, a DR650, XT650, a XR650, xr250, wr250 or a KTM640 ADV from a few years back. Seriously. There is a reason the KLR is cheap. Hint: Its because it is a really horrible bike.

If CCM brings the 450GP to US, I will consider it for my next travel bike. There are rumors about a KTM 390ADV in the future. If Honda, Yamaha or ANYONE would nut-up and build a 450 enduro with a long oil change interval, I'd buy it. If none of these pan out. I will build another 690. After all, it is the best RTW motorcycle made today... Well the way mine is setup. Not from factory

Hi Noah,
Some news from MN, your pals from Grand Marais are braving the cold and driving down to Little Marais this weekend for some Super Enduro maintenance. Richard, Woody, Ted (C-Zulu), MikeS and Mike (I think) will be swinging down this weekend to work on bikes and talk about spring riding. I'm sure you'll be a topic of conversation. Keep up the great RR!

Safe travels.

KTM did just acquire Husqvarna from BMW. So maybe a more pedestrian KTM like bike might be in the works too.

Great report.

Great Video Noah!

I found the blacksmith couple's skills impressive too.. thought they were your mechanics and couldn't figure out what they were doing. All makes sense now.

Never heard of CCM before. That 450GP looks about perfect! I'm sure that will be another bike we won't get in the states though.. :-(

Im sending this to a few KLR buddies of mine....They bust my chops for riding a bike (990 adv) that costs more than the three of theirs combined.... I keep telling them that you get what you pay for....
