As a thanks for the ride report I made a drawing of the bike you started the trip on. I'm an illustrator by trade and enjoy drawing peoples bikes and I really liked the one you started the trip out on... so as a way for you to remember it I drew it up for you. Was thinking I might offer these to other inmates as a way to fund-raise for my own trip that I'm planning for next Fall, so to get some practice in I thought I'd do a couple of the bikes from some of my favorite journeys, and yours is definitely one!

Anyways, hope you like it and keep the reporting up!

Greg D

This is awesome! Thank you so much.

I was thinking the same thing when I saw it. If Greg doesn't mind.. we might have to. Who will buy one?

The Russians all call me what sounds like "No-ee". Its all good.

As far as the visa, I used Rainier World Travel Inc out of Issaquah WA. They are great to work with. They got my LOI and and Visa for $450 total. It is 3 year multiple entry tourist visa. This is now an option for Americans. No more 6 month business visa and lying about being in Russia for business. I can stay in Russia for up to 6 months at a time. I don't think there are any other restrictions. Processing time was about 10 days - 2 weeks. All in all it took about 1 month with sending the passport from Georgia to the US and back.

Noah,

Your winter whiskers are coming in full wooly. With some well placed zip ties, I believe you can stash a couple of tire irons and maybe even a tube in there come May!

Keep up the great reporting.

Quite funny but I still like the original.

That's what I'd call a "PWN".

Epic

Looks like you're having an epic winter, Noah. We're having some good late season snow in the East here but you are making some serious memories here. BTW - Dig the beard. I usually only shave every 3 days or so since my work dress code is casual. Every time I do my 7 year old daughter asks why I cut it off. She so badly wants me to grow a beard (why??). I'd be all about the mountain man look if I did (but her mother says otherwise). Rock on.

Quick update

Picked up the moto from storage yesterday. I should be getting all the new parts next week sometime.

Azerbaijan visa for Americans is $160. I found a travel agency in Tbilisi that is doing it for $200 total and getting my LOI. Some say you don't need LOI for Az but I figure $40 is worth it saving me the hassle of the embassy and being told I do need one.

I was told the Kazak embassy is very bureaucratic here in Tbilisi so It will take 10 days to get the Visa. The travel agency suggests to use the Embassy in Baku, AZ but I won't have enough time in that country. Better now before I start traveling while I have the time.

The only other thing is the Carnet. The first country I will need it is Japan. I don't have enough time to get it now before I leave Georgia so I will get it sent to my home then forwarded somewhere... maybe Vladivostok. I guess i need to find a contact to send it to.

Some help maybe

Noah:
Contact Walter Colebatch via Email or PM on ADV rider, He has contacts all over Russia & I believe has a super trusty contact
in Vladivostok. I'm sure WC will get you the help you need as that's what he does best and seems to know everyone in Russia

Hey Noah,

What does the "OP" next to your call sign mean? I don't recall seeing that before on AdvRider.

Cheers,

JG

It's pretty new. I think it's to identify the Original Poster of the thread.

Actually it stands for Out Patient

I went back to the beginning of your ride report Noah and saw that picture of you in the space suit and was wondering exactly why does one have to wear a space suit when working on wind equipment. Should we be afraid of wind power?

Still subscribed and thoroughly enjoying the winter interlude photos. Thanks for keeping us entertained - this RR keeps getting gooder and gooder.

YK

Just voted for this RR - definitely a 5 star report.
