So say I was riding it like it was a dirtbike (hypothetically) and I tore two of the mounts in half. What would be the best way to get the remaining half out???

Old flat tip screwdriver, or a chisel, and CAREFULLY tap the edge counter clockwise to unscrew it.

Funny, my '09 has hexagonal mounts, and the stock plastic plate has matching recess that they lock in to. Maybe this is a feature aftermarket guards should incorporate into their design. I usually back up the rubber side with a wrench and it prevents them from twisting off.

Well I got one off, the other is being quite stubborn. Gonna have to figure out another method for that one.
