Champlain Islands

Took a loop through the Champlain Islands after work yesterday, this is where the bike path causeway across the bay goes. Here's the car causeway aka Route 2

another damn nice day

The wind is usually blowing pretty good across the Lake

Looking pretty quiet at the Snow Farm Winery in So. Hero today

This will be a busier spot in a few more weeks

but for now I've got it all to myself

Most things are still closed for the season still

Did I mention what a nice day it was?

Heading back

Until next time...

Wildflower Jam

Foggy and cool this morning, so I booked it to my destination... Rochester, VT

Every Saturday at 10 a.m. at Wildflower Antiques on Route 100 there's an acoustic music jam session, open to players and listeners. I unzipped my guitar bag and slid into the circle for a while.

By the time I'd had enough picking, the sun was out and so was my camera as I headed north on route 100 with no hurry to get home to my lawn mowing.

In Hancock I took Route 125 toward Middlebury

Testing out my moving shots, keeping the camera on a lanyard

Most of route 125 have been recently repaved, so it's in excellent shape

Middlebury's Breadloaf campus

a great run, but I was starting to look for a detour

Yup, this looks promising

Followed the signs for #59 past tons of hiking trailheads, through a bunch of gates ( they were open)

and eventually came out back on 125 just uphill of Ripton village

then my camera batteries died. I'll have to take some shots of Route 116 another time.

Great ride reports and pics. So much fun riding the back roads here in VT. Sounds like you did the Natural Turnpike in GMNF...great fun and twisty dirt road...with tons of trails to explore off of it ;) I was in riding in and around Huntington, Starksboro, Hinesburg, Richmond yesterday...but no photos.

Keep the pictures and reports coming!

Noodling Around Mt. Mansfield

No big plan today, just stop for waffles at my brother's place and then head north for a bit. After coffee, I headed out route 128 to Fairfax, then Fletcher Road towards Binghamville.

Then up toward Metcalf Pond

In a network of cool dirt roads, then this

I decided to turn back

I should mention that my Gazeteer is missing, and now looking at a map, I see what a bunch of circles I have driven in.
Eventually I popped out in Cambridge by the "wrong way bridge" and took Route 15 up to Johnson

Turned off near Hyde Park and eventually caught up with Route 100 into Main St., Stowe.

The road thru Smuggler's Notch was opened a few weeks ago when we had an unseasonable stretch of warm weather, then closed again when Mt. Mansfield got another dusting of snow. I decided to see if it was open again. So up the Mountain Road it is.

Saw a sign saying "Notch Road Open"- we are a go

FYI- the rest rooms are still closed

Headed on home from here

And out Past Smuggler's Notch Ski area on the other side

Then back into Jeffersonville for the second time today, and time for a quick coffee break

This time I took 108 North out of town, towards Bakersfield.

Picked up Route 36 through the farms of East Fairfield, then South Road and Buck Hollow brought me back to the crossroads in Fairfax for the second time today.

then headed on home

Sigh...

Sometimes I really miss New England.

I had a 01 BMW just like that too.

Thanks for the Ride Report.

Haven't been up there for a few years. Been riding way out west. I finally left my bike in Phoenix to visit. So I bought a new bike to keep in Boston. Going to revisit VT/NH/ME with her....and some of NY too. Working on my tracks now.

Nice pix, FolkGirl. Right in my stomping grounds. If you happen to see a dog in a yellow hack, wave!

Tale of 2 Fridays

Last Friday it was sunny and rode to work, it's not a bad ride

This is Kenyon Rd. in Richmond, a highlight of the ride home

But this Friday I skipped the work part to go for a bigger ride

Off to WHACO

Headed south to Barre, picked up Route 302 and then turned off the pavement toward Townsend

Lots of road signs stolen, so not sure exactly where this was, but a nice little run

then I popped back out on 302 again near Calais

Crossed over into NH and headed for the Kancamangus Hwy

Lots of scenic pull off spots on the Kanc. I had time, so pulled in to a few

Turned off onto Bear Notch

When I hit Conway NH it was still early, so I looked up Hurricane Mountain Road

Got passed by a fast moving pack of ADV riders up here. Those guys can move
