I worked in a multi-bike dealership in 83 and was just about to pull the trigger on buying a new red 1100f when we got a new 1100 Katana in . One ride on that beast and I was sold. Still have it too. Still works fairly well but after riding modern stuff its strange to hop on it occasionally and think that at one time it was badass.

Thanks to all who contributed photos and information about the big Suzuki. Surf over to VMOL for my feature on the GS1000 (it's our Bike of the Month for May) but the piece actually begins on the home page. The 1150 will be included in an article I'm writing about vintage, big-inch haulers, also featuring the Triumph Daytona 1200 and Munch Mammut.

Thanks again guys!

I've got this tucked away waiting for a bit of TLC.

One day it will look like this I hope.

Oh and me back in the early 80's.

AP: Thanks for the photo flood!

I'm working something up on the 1150E/ES, but the '78 GS 'Skunk' is the Suzuki that has my heart. Want one!

Axis, I hate you for all your cool toys here as much as on GSR. I'm kidding. But no I hate you.

all three i had were nice, i mean really nice, but that skunk in the picture was the pick of the litter. purchased from the original owner with 3200 miles on it. it was in showroom condition, i mean perfect. the picture does not do that bike justice.all my bud's thought i was nuts to pay $3200.00 for it. the original owner had the dealer add the accel wires/coils, electronic igniton, and the "E" emblem on the side covers a couple of years later.

this one was 9/10th of being as nice. just needed a little mechanical servicing from sitting.cosmetically just fucking gorgeous. got it from the original owner too. was on cl in new york and someone posted a link to the listing on gsr. the seller was wanting like $1500.00 for it. he even had a tire kicker come over and pass. i made him a ludicrously low offer of $750.00, and he accepted.he bought the bike new in anchorage, ak. and drug the bike all over the country for the next 33 years only putting 7,000 miles on it.

all three ended up in Dubai of all places.
i bought this one out of a trailer park in east st louis. advertised as a "suzuki gs1000" for $400.00 almost didn't click on the listing. Mitch Boehm, editor/publisher of "moto retro" bought it for a future project.

found this in branson mo. listed as a "suzuki gs1100" for $700.00. decent running, riding 1000 katana.

here it is with a proper front fender.

oh, and a couple of sub $600.00 "c" models. both with under 5,000 miles.
