Torx Screws
Hello all. As far as im aware the small black plastic panels on both sides of the 800 are held on with 2 metal prongs plus a m5x25 torx screw. I have stripped out the housing that the screw screws into on one side. I want to drill out the housing, feed a longer torx screw through and fit a nut to the back. Im struggling to find torx screws that have the same head but are up to 50 long. If i can i would like to stick to the same looking fasteners that are on the bike. Any ideas?

I guess sticking to the same torx screw isnt totally neccessary, i just thought i would if i could. Its the panel on the right side, quite easy to get my hand under the back of the panel to fit a nut if need be.
Anyway, after reading the replies, I guess the nut option isnt the best. Seems like the 2 best options are to just clean up both holes, re tap them and insert a larger screw/bolt, most likely not torx, I guess that isnt a big deal OR the helicoil idea. Didnt know what a heli coil was till I just checked on youtube. That would be the best idea but costly I am assuming. I dont want to sound as though its a big deal, its not, I just love the idea that I can get on here with little idea of how to fix something and a number of people have some great ideas. Thanks |

Here is one more thought. There is a possibility the frame boss is threaded deaper than the existing screw is long. If it is you can use a screw slightly longer the the original one. If you can get 3-4 threads engaged it will be OK. Maybe a drop of BLUE locktite for insurance. GH
