That would be a ground wire. Connect it to the frame and make sure you're getting good contact.

Usually connects to the lower bolt that hold the ICU to the frame..far right in your picture. Don't know why the ground is so far to the rear..the ground wire is supposed to thread between the upper/lower top frames towards the front. Also, what's with the crimping??time for a new harness?

Ground wires on all German vehicles are brown--that shade of brown. Color of "earth" you know.
