Bike magazine UK

In the latest issue of the Bike Magazine there is a 30+ pages focusing on the KTM adventure 1190, where they are reporting when test riding rather mature P2 prototypes. It is indeed a great read. If you are impatient, like me, and cannot wait for the magazine to reach your country, you can download the ipad app for this magazine, and purchase the entire issue as an on-line read.

They are quite optimistic ..... ;-) They are not whining about the 10kg of extra weight compared to the 990 (it appears to be a non-issue). Oh, and they loved the engine....

Was there a price listed somewhere or are you converting from another market?

This can't be the real price. I mean that would make it more expensive than the new Beemer

I am also looking forward to a test ride... even thinking of placing an order right away, and trade in my GS. It was interesting to learn that they thought 1190 was better than the 990 in the off-road department. The BIKE magazine photographer "Chippy", a skilled offroad rider and competitor allegedly, even had expressed that the 1190 was the best big traillie bike so far (replacing his old favorite the 950 superenduro).

Cheers, Jrgen

I guess it won't. I was told that KTM riders where hard-core riders, and BMW GS riders were posers. This thread is making me believe that some in the former group are also hard-core whiners, and some seem to spend more time whining than riding. What is going on with all the negativity.... And then people are whining that they wanted the successor to be smaller and lighter, and with less horsepower.... Did anyone really believe that the successor of the 990 would be smaller than the 950 it was replacing in the first place ---- Geez. That is naive by standards I cannot comprehend. Having said that... I too hope that KTM will come with an addition to their stable that sits between the 1190 and 690.

Some quotes from the 30 pages...

"The four-piston, radially-mounted front brake calipers are a huge improvement over the old bike's sliding two-pots"

"The differences between the two machines are immediately obvious. Outrageously, and I'm starkly aware this sounds ridiculous - the existing Adventure feels slow after the 1190. "

"Riding position is improved, with a more natural bend to the handlebars and a more sculpted, supportive saddle".

"... my knees are slightly closer together than on the 990 thanks to the 1190's reduced bulk down by your calves. The result is more control and confidence."

and they love the motor and the practicality of the new adventure.

Yeah I took the price from two other markets British pound and the euro both converted to 22K. I'm sure the thing will be starting in the mid 18s and go up from there.

Some Swedish dealers advertise them on our "craigslist":

http://www.blocket.se/goteborg/KTM_1...4.htm?ca=2&w=3

Say maintenance every 15 000 kms in the ad.

Also says "price not set" but have listed it at 299 000 SEK ~45 000 USD so hope that is VERY far from what it will be even if Im not looking to replace or add any bike right now.

Pricing KTM site

For Pricing.
Go to KTM's international site, click on the 1190r then click on the powerparts calculator. It will give a price for Austria, France, Germany, Italy and the UK.

Basically 15k euro in all but Austria add another 2k. UK 13k pounds.

But YOU need a new playmobile Johan. I dont but thinking bout getting a stablemate to my beloved SE. Forget the 299 kSEK 45 kUSD. They just randomly picked a number for that ad. Hmmm, shoud I maybe place an order already in the Stockholm February bike fairs? I did on the new SE in early 2006 and have never regret that.

Hmmmmmmm, something to which I could actually touch the ground with both feet, 50 more HP than my Super Enduro. Maybe it's just me, but let"s throw a high front fender and respectable knobbies on it and give it a go!

If it works then maybe I'll consider selling my SE and crossing over...
