Hope this helps you make up your mind. Both are great bikes but are a very different ride.
Thanks for the response Fuzzy.

This was the assessment I was looking for. What I hear you saying is the nature of the twin is that it's just buzzy at speed. 65-75 mph will be less smooth than the triple is in top gear, right? Have you ridden a 1200gs in top gear at these speeds? If the 1190 is similar I think I may have to pass. If you're saying the 1190 is about the same as the RC51....count me in!

It's not what I would call it buzzy and I've not had hands go to sleep. It's more a like a throbbing. In fact, hit 8k and it's like a rocket powered sled straight from hell!

Haven't ridden the GS though, so I couldn't compare. I figured the KTM is lighter and I'll bet my left nad it's more fun.

At highway speeds under 5k revs it's actually pretty smooth. Not Tiger smooth though.

I'd really test ride it if you have any doubts. It's a hella fun bike.

I fitted KTM's Progressive Handlebar Damping System (PHDS) about $200 - takes most of the vibes through the handlebar away. Nothing major remaining - but hey I came of a 690 so I suppose anything would be smooth after that...

My KTM dealer has offered a decent trade allotment on my current 800XC but I still have a couple questions. I'm going primarily use the 1190 Adventure as a road bike, just like I think KTM designed it to be.

Are there any former 800XC owners on the new 1190 Adventure that could help?

  1. The 800 triple is amazingly smooth at any rpm. This is what drew me to the Triumph. Having ridden the 990, 800GS and 1200GS(non-water boxer), the handlebar vibes in the top half of the rpm range on all three eliminated them a couple years ago. How does the 1190 compare?
  2. I bought the 800XC because I wanted a fun road bike that would easily travel gravel and dirt. Will the 1190 Adventure keep me grinning in the twisties and be comfortable enough to do 400-600 miles a day?
That's an interesting take on things. Or that is the normal take on things. I may be the exception here. I have the Tiger 800XC, have taken it off road and that smooth-turbine-like engine and sound just doesn't match dirt riding. Great on pavement. But when turning to dirt, it sounds and behaves like it doesn't belong there, no matter how well or not it travels on dirt.

That on itself is making me think of going for the F800GS or the 1190.

BTW: I have a bike for the road (Multistrada), and one for pure dirt (WR250R). I need something for fun on gravel, long distance travel that involves western USA gravel roads.

1190 Adventure carbon heatshield

Voilá...well almost. Just giving it a trial and then add carbon look tomorrow so should look like the carbon shields on the Wings exhaust. It works a treat, I can now drive around in town in shorts while the oil is at 95º without melting my skin of my left leg! I might still stick some heat reflective patch, or what ever you call it, on the inside to keep the carbon cooler.
Added a scoop as well to improve fresh air flow in at the same time. Any comments welcome

Can't be too much! Haven't paid for it yet:) Pretty sure the guy that made it for me can make a whole batch. It will need a little tweaking and she should be perfect. Problem is I'll be shipping my bike and myself across the pond soon so might run out of time to make a few more
