sleepyOwl, get this: I had shown my little wifey your pictures of your gorgeous ADV-R and the H&B Explore bags (good looking combination, btw) in order to gauge her opinion. Think mini-focus group questionaire. The first thing she asked was, "How the f*ck am I supposed to get on and get off?"

Huh.

There's a unique perspective I did not consider. My wife is small (5'2", 107 lb). I am really curious regarding your pillion's perspective.

Cheers, and be safe!

These hard bag options are all well and good, but for me Wolfman soft luggage strapped across the back seat and kept away from any moving parts by luggage racks are the answer.

I found hard luggage off-road to be cumbersome and restrictive and do not intend to go back to it!

Has anyone here ridden the 1190 on the freeway at 75 -85mph? How smooth is the motor. I just sold my 950 and need another bike so the choice is between the 1190 or the new GS. I have a BMW LT for long road trips but need something that will do over 500 miles a day at freeway speeds. So who here has ridden both and can compare them for me? Thanks.

I recently made a 1,000 km TRIP, 90% on the free way. If you used to have a 950 I can tell you this is a completely different bike! Very smooth and comfortable. I Have the ergo seats fit on it and make a huge difference.
If is not the same comfort like the BMW, will be very close!.

Test rode one

Drove down to Mountain motorsports in Ga today to test ride the 1190. Nice people there. I rode it solo and two up . All the route I took was full of cars and traffic lights. Everything about the bike is true to the many reports. Smooth as glass in all aspects. Light clutch , perfect fueling , slick shifting, plenty of power. Seats on the hard side but nothing like some of my other ktms have been. Placed an order many months ago. Trey, who works there told me they will begin to arrive after the new year. It seems the wait will be worth it.

Roadrunner site picked KTM as the best big adv bike for 2014

It was still 2013 the last time I looked, but they have included the new Veek as #5 in their list.

Since the talk was about luggage some posts ago,
i heard that the bike becomes really unstable when driving with the hard luggage on speeds above 150 kmh. Can someone confirm this ?

Off topic: According to KTMs mail that i received, they should have announcwed yesterday (the 4th) all the new changes on the 2014 model... Still didnt see anything.

I think that depends on a lot of factors, i.e. whats the charge and left/right distribution, then which hard luggage, PP, TT, or any other manufacturer. Another criteria is topbox and windshield.

KTM says not to go faster than 150 km/h with the PP panniers. Some say that they got wobble with empty panniers at 180 km/h, with charged panniers at 200 and went with passenger upto 220 with no instability.

Could anyone tell me if there is still an alarm plug below the seat? I would like to attach a micro controller and make my own alarm system.

A KTM alarm kit is an available option in the power parts catalog so im guessing yep there's a plug there somewhere
