There wasn't any comment about babying it; just that KTM's recommendation for the first service is 1000 miles, not 600 miles.

Hmm, over here they tell of us to come in at 1000km, I dare say that's closer to 600 miles than 1000 miles.

If 400 miles of riding is going be the difference in making your engine burn oil, I'll hang up my helmet for good.

I did. full throttle or nothing for the first 150km from the shop to home. My sightglass level hasnt moved in 7000km, even though the bike has been upside down several times.

The same on mine from new.

Very few kms now (750) but the oil level is still at max!

It looks clean and will be changing it at 7,500km's

If the bike comes with mineral oil and gets synthetic after the first service, that could be a reason - i.e. running a bit longer on mineral before synthetic - I've heard people argue that an engine can't be run in with synthetic.... just hearsay?

From what the tech at my dealer told me they come with break in oil in the motor thats different than the full synthetic motorex. Not sure if its mineral but that would make sense. The old adage is that synthetic isn't as good for break in because the rings don't seat as well or quickly. Not sure how true it is on the 1190 but I definitely plan to run at least the 600 miles before the first change. I wonder if the guys who change their oil really soon are doing more harm than good. I'd doubt it would make much difference as everyone says they dyno them at the factory WOT, which would seat the rings pretty quick.
Ride more worry less IMHO.

But you wear ear plugs anyway, right? Hearing loss is cumulative and permanent. Don't fool your self into believing ear plugs are not necessary.

With the Puig, I don't use earplugs when I'm not going on the highway.
Here's a pic I found that shows the difference well:

Do you ever experience any vibration issues with puig?
I read some bad reviews on it and went with the KTM touring screen. Better then stock but still far from my liking.. Looking for a new screen now.. Again..
Also the Puig seems to lack the counter bend at the highest part. Any comments on that?
