![]() Low Pipe + High Ground Clearance = Good Low Pipe + Low Ground Clearance = Bad? Compare the rear axle on both bikes, not even close.

Glad they made a change...
I'm certainly not going to go out and buy a new 1190, but that's because I'm way happy with my 950 S. But I'm surprised it took so long for KTM to come out with the 1190. It's the only way they can try to compete with the GS12 and the press that considers BMW so superior. The question isn't really would you keep your 990 or upgrade to the 1190. It's whether you'd buy a new GS12 or the new 1190. From that stand point I think everyone here would agree. And that's an answer we can all be proud of looking ahead. Once the 1190 has international success then they can start focusing on the micro niches we all fall under.
Let's hope the 1190 does really, really well and inspires KTM to develop a high tech mid-range Rally Replica Twin. I think that's something we can all agree on too.

Considering the rear axle height is determined by tire and wheel size it looks identical to me...
At the end of the day getting that pipe down low is going to make the bike run cooler, the shock run cooler so it's less likely to fade, the rear brake line cooler, and the mass is going to be lower to let the bike handle better. |

This is probably a better true comparison photo. Take piece of paper from the top of your screen and run the straight edge between the axles of both photos and you can clearly see how much more is hanging below the axle height on the 1190!

KTM USA read all the ADV threads and decided to ditch the 1190 and replace it with the 2014 950 ADV - with updated special extra high pipe mod. |
