Talking 1st Annual Rubber Chicken Ride

Come Join Us for NMOHVA’s
1St Annual Rubber Chicken Ride!

From Drop Box

October 19-21, 2012
Truth or Consequences, New Mexico

Come join us on NMOHVA’s first “Rubber Chicken Ride”. This is a Dual Sport Motorcycle fundraiser for legal action to keep roads and trails open for ALL on our lands managed by the Forest Service.

Why a “Rubber Chicken Ride”? The Forest Service keeps trying to serve us a “rubber chicken” but we know better and they can’t fool us anymore! We know the TRUTH and the FS will face the CONSEQUENCES. Proceeds from this ride will go toward legal action to challenge the Forest Service’s Travel Management environmental documents and decisions.

This is no fee associated with this event and you get what you pay for:

• You are on your own for lodging!
• You are on your own for meals!
• You are on your own for rides!

But what you will get is plenty of opportunity to travel with fellow dual sport enthusiasts on some of New Mexico’s best rides. NMOHVA will provide maps of suggested routes and we anticipate plenty of people who would be willing to let you follow them as they explore the beautiful and varied scenery on the dirt roads around T or C. All suggested routes will be on state and county roads and all bikes must be registered for street use in New Mexico.

Donations are encouraged.

All proceeds will go to
NMOHVA’s Access Defense Fund.

Much more info to follow such as routes, lodging, etc.
*Limited to first 50 people.

Brushy mountain

Are you going to take the alternate route off the top of "Brushy Mountain" again?

How did you know about that? ...but, in answer to the question...of course!

We are IN!

Dirtyskwerl and I are both in. I will keep track of the sign-ups as NMOHVA will be limiting the participants to the first 50 riders.

Flyingwelshman forgot to mention that T or C has ten historic hot springs resorts in the center of town. Ah.....! Soaking in naturally hot water after a day's ride, marvelous!

We made our reservations at the Fire Water Lodge. We haven't stayed there before but the place looks good and, in talking to them, they have a courtyard that is suitable for some unofficial gathering/lie swapping/bench racing etc. It even has grills if someone is inclined to burn some meat.

If soaking isn't your thing, there are a few more 'typical' accomodations (including a Motel 6 and a Comfort Inn) out toward the highway.

See you in October (and beware the Rubber Chicken!)

Lotsa great riding around this area, some destinations require some considerable slab, but it's good slab.

I honest can't answer this with experience, but I have heard River Bend Hot Springs are very nice.
http://www.riverbendhotsprings.com/

During this ride I'm staying here: http://www.firewaterlodge.com/ The cool thing about this place is the hot spring is in your room. (my wife is coming...hopefully)

As to camping, there's 3 in/around T or C (they'll show up on Google search). I would ride around and visually check them out before pulling the trigger. There's also apparently quite a few campgrounds in Elephant Butte which is only a few miles away. T or C has more dining options.

Good luck and let me know where you stayed and ate!

Thanks for the info . As cheap as the rooms are I think we will stay there instead of camping . Hopefully my wife will be along if I can work it out for the ride .

Nope...it's just the Capt passing on "The Curse" to another unsuspecting rider.
