Cool! Just out of curious, how much is the ferry from La Paz to Mazatlan? I found the website and wasn't sure if it is in USD or Peso? $750 seems awful pricey for USD!!

The Mazzy Star

Prices are MXN, not USD. Moto will cost ~MXN$1000. Consider the cheap cabin, it quotes at ~MXN$500 but the website gave it to us for MXN$450, don't know why. You might be able to lay a sleeping bag out on the deck and camp under the stars if you're hardcore. Comes with free dinner and breakfast. Lots of truckers, they're all friendly though I'm pretty sure I saw one beating it in the cafeteria. But don't let that dissuade you from appreciating the charms of the Mazatlan Star.

Awesome, thanks for the info! Since it is in MXN pesos, yes you are right it is affordable compared to USD. Appreciate it!

We're looking around for actual crossings of the Darien Gap in the last few months. Seems things have gone south. The ferry is not operating as promised, sailboats are being turned back and flight costs have gone through the roof. Options for ro-ro via Ecuador perhaps? Any info appreciated. Currently in Guatemala.

We are in Belize and will be in Guatemala in a week or so. You may get to Panama before us, in which case we will be using you for advice If you'd like to meet up along the way, let us know.

These guys took a container ship from Colón, but it doesn't sound optimal. They also had a Vanagon, tho.

They were also going to take the ferry, but it didn't materialize.

What prices were you seeing for flights?

Blog post: Belize

My Belize post is up, we just left there today:

https://stompersboots.com/2012/07/er...-notes-belize/

Belize tips for you moto riders:
  • Going to Caye Caulker, Ambergris Caye, or nearby? Need a place to park your bike? Stay a night at the Princess Hotel in Belize City and then make an "arrangement" with the head of security
  • Tropicool Hotel in San Ignacio has good parking for motorcyclists
