I didn't do any riding worth mention while you were away but I did install a bash plate, rear rack, and mounted some d606s. Tomorrow I'm doing a valve check and patching the rear tube. It seems I was a bit careless with my spoons and the first patch and slime didn't do the trick. I hope your wheel is as easy to take care of as Bill makes it sound. Good luck!

I read my posts and it does sound like the bearing removal is sort of easy. It isn't quite as easy as it sounds maybe, takes some real careful work with a Dremal cutting wheel, bearing races are hardened steel so it takes time and you can't let it slip.
Problem is when there is nothing left but the outer race you can't (I couldn't anyway) get behind them with any kind of punch to tap them out so I had to just very carefully cut through it. There are three bearings in the hub and sprocket carrier, two of mine had enough left and are positioned such that I could get on a shoulder with a punch and small hammer and they come out in just a few seconds.

It seems this is not an unusual problem with the early BMW F800/650 GS models (2009-2010) so anyone with one of these bikes with over 20,000 miles should check the rear wheel bearings. If you catch them before they get too bad it is cheap and easy to replace these bearings. Mine went out at about 28,000 miles.

Went back and looked at Peter's wheel again and realized why it looked a little strange to me, he has an alloy wheel, I have a spoked wheel so my hub is some different from his. But the mess inside the hubs is very similar so I would still say to attempt the same fix.

Hey guys, haven't been on here in awhile, taking my brother in law, who is a new rider on a ride next weekend, will leave out of Norman for a half day or so ride, small bikes, 250-400cc, was wondering if anybody had suggestions on cool roads or places I might not have explored within an hour of the metro. I was wondering about the adv ride from performance up to Stillwater, I missed it but heard it had some single track. does anybody have a gpx file of that ride? any other ideas? thanks!

That is correct. The single track you saw was likely on his land. Made some divots where they told me not to take the V-Strom.

I got caught up on Engineers in some rain. Lots of slick rock on many of those passes minus the rain. slicker rock with rain and faster deeper water down the hill as well. It sure is a nice area to screw off a couple of days.

Orange mistress

Woodsy I have a new (to me) orange addition coming to the family. I'm picking up a 950 Super Enduro.

That means my BMW needs a new home and some love...hint hint.

You NEED a good dual sport bike to ride the distance. I mean, you REALLY need a bike to run with the likes of the KLRs, LC4s and such. hmmm?
