Sidecar Outfit Driven From the Hack?

A friend of mine attended a car show in Southern California this past weekend and saw what he described as a '70s era Honda 750 with a sidecar. The kicker is that this sidecar outfit was being driven from the hack! I asked him if he got any pictures and he said he didn't. He said the guy was just driving through the parking lot and wasn't actually part of the show. Has any one ever seen anything like this, and if so, have you got any pictures?? My buddy told me that the bike was set up just like any bike with handlebars and levers. I wonder if you could drive it from either position...

No, I mean the outfit controls were in the hack, and the bike itself was unmanned. The outfit was powered by the bike motor. Essentially the guy had it set up so it looked and rode just like any other sidecar outfit, but he had controls in the tub for steering, throttle, and braking.

Tomco conversions made these for wheel chair use. We have one here, It was set up for a CB750A. It is crude, missing the nose cone and free if some one wants to come and get it. We also have for sale a CB750A, It is my sister in laws bike, she stopped driving it when it developed an oil leak from the head gasket. She is open to offers. I suspect $500 would buy it.

This one was at Griffith Park last November, don't know about riding shotgun on the bike seat though.

A guy, "Wheelchair Bob" had one in Lexington back in the '80s. I was checking it out one day and he asked if I wanted to go for a ride. sure, why not.
Bob's rig was a Honda 750A, a bike not known as all that quick, but , Bob was determined to give me a thrill ,I guess. His bike had no handlebars for me , he told me to put my hands on the tank to brace myself. And off we went, Bob kept the hammer down and cornered for all it was worth.
I kept my legs squeezing the seat and tank as hard as possible , but , it was all I could do just to stay on.. I ended up glad it was a short ride.

I saw a HD that had one.
I want to say it was a Sportster, but I'm not sure.
The owner was disabled and in a wheelchair.
Had bars mounted in the sidecar that steered the rig via linkage to the bike triple tree.
Two buttons on the left handlebar actuated the transmission shift up and down.
Front brake was modified to link all the brakes.

It's been a while since I've seen it, but might have a pic somewhere.
Will look and get back.

Well, I asked my buddy if that was the bike, and he said he doesn't think the sidecar was set up for wheelchair access. He said he thinks the guy was sitting in the tub driving around, and the bike had a set of handlebars for a passenger to hang on to. Obviously the same sort of concept as the handicap access rigs. Pretty cool none the less!

my first hack ride was with me sitting on the bike while the pilot was sitting in his wheelchair in the hack. he had regular motorcycle controls and there was a loop for me to hang on to over the tank. the bike was a Honda 750 auto. it did feel a bit wierd to have no control over the bike I was sitting on, but something a person could get accoustomed to I imagine. the controls were linked to the bike with belcrank assemblies. I don't remember if there were any changes to the fork, but he didn't seem to have any difficulty steering the rig.
