One question, though: why make a crankshaft out of aluminum???

I don't think the crank is aluminium. Just the case.

Just re-read it and you're right - aluminum crankcase.

That is some cool machine work. It sounds pretty exotic, too.

When I rode in the 2005 True Grits Rally, there was a guy there displaying a mini Ducati replica based on either a YSR 50 or NSR 50 body & frame. He grafted a second cylinder onto a Honda 50cc or 70cc (I can't remember which now) motor to make a 90 degree L twin like a Duc. Looked and sounded too cool.

Cool for sure. Also looks like the tach is reading 3 tines what it really is.
