I currently coach a U10 girls soccer team and will continue to coach them this fall when they move up to U11. Dealing with the parents can be a bit problematic at times. But that's easy compared to the complete bullshit that I've had to deal with from other coaches and league admins. If I didn't love coaching my daughter and the rest of the girls, I would never do it. Why do the adults insist on ruining it???

Because they sucked at sports and are trying to live vicariously through their little snowflakes, common sense and the child's sense of self-worth be damned.

I would say that's true with some parents. Thankfully, most of the parents of my players are pretty good. I'm mostly talking about other coaches as well as the VP/President in my own club. Some of the shit they do lacks common sense and does anything but put the kids first. It's a fucking disgrace. I've spoken up numerous times and called them out on their actions. By doing so, I've apparently been kicked out of the "cool kids club". Which is fine by me. Hopefully this way they stay away from my kids and my team.

I know, Hodag is a little ridiculous in that thread. No big deal though.

Hey, do you guys have a goalie in U10? How do you teach them that? Do you let them all do it, or just a couple of them?

We don't start playing with a goalie until U10.

Yes, we have goalies in U10 and we had them in U9 as well. In the fall we have a separate practice once a week for goalie training. During regular practices we constantly work the goalies into various drills. Currently, I have 2 girls that play goal. Each one plays a half every game but will play the entire game should the other not be there.

Everyone wants to be the goalie next year. I don't get it. I told them, "you don't get to score!" They couldn't care less.

One of the 2 goalies on my team is my daughter. I asked her why she likes to play in goal, her response "I want to do everything I can to stop the other team from scoring and I want to make sure our defense is where it's suppose to be." She's on of the leaders on the team and is very vocal on the field. Constantly directing her team mates, calling for the ball, etc. Some kids are just defensive minded while others are purely offensive minded. You can tell pretty quickly in practices which kids should be playing where.

My kid likes to spin in circles till he gets dizzy and falls down, then looks for four leaf clovers while he's down there.

offense or defense?
