If your /5 is a LWB then they would bolt right up. You might have to shorten the turn signal stock which is easy to do with a pipe cutter.

I am not familiar enough with the different bikes to say. I was told by one fellow that they were pretty interchangeable, but I don't know for a fact. Maybe somebody can chime in.

Need beater mufflers

Looking for a set of cosmetically challenged mufflers for an R90/6. Surface rust is fine but not major rust holes. Plan on cutting them up to make a set of custom mufflers. I'm in central Florida toward the east coast. Thanks!

I have a set to ship from here in Northern California if you aren't able to find any closer by.

The /5 bikes are model years 1970 to 1973. They started with what became known as the SWB, Short Wheel Base, models and later the wheel base was lengthened by the extension of several parts of the frame. To begin with the swing arm is longer in a LWB bike, Long Wheel Base. This longer part can sometimes be recognized by welds in the drive shaft tube of the swing arm, but that is not a diffinative touch because the swing arm may be a longer one with out the welds.

Picture stolen from Duane Ausherman.

The sub frame is longer and the seat is longer on a LWB bike.

To make this more confusing there is no cut off or model change date. For a while they made both LWB and SWB bikes. And in the later 70's and 80's it was popular to make a LWB /6 or /7 into a SWB bike by swapping some parts around. You just have to learn how to spot them

How all this effects the luggage is interesting. The bag frames attach to several places. On a LWB bike the frames are different. The bags are the same but not the frames.

Really? I thought it was the subframe that was different, but the frames have the same geometry - though there may be differences in construction or tabs etc.

This paragraph, two sentences, is about the bags. So it says the "bag frames" are different, not the bike frames. I did mention earlier that the "sub frames" are different.

This does get confusing. There is the bike frame, the bike sub frame, the bag frame.

All the bike frames are the same length.

On short or long wheel base bikes the sub frames and the bag frames correspond to the model. Seats also are either SWB or LWB.

Just trying to make it some what clearer but of course any time I do that it gets more confusing.

Google "Forking By Frank" if you're looking for new at a good price.

Bend yourself some of these out of some heavy wire. Solved.

R100GS Rear Wheel and Sidestand

According to BMW these are no longer available. Good spokes, runs true. Light corrosion on the spoke nipples and hub. I will have the tire removed before shipping. $400 or OBO plus shipping.

Sidesand is in pretty good shape. Has a couple of holes drilled in the foot. $75.00
