...and Drunk Uncle? You want back in? There's space for you, bud.

The GNT is this Sunday and my bike is not cranking. I'll have it fixed but having a fourth volunteer would be handy if any of you are on the fence.

Thanks again to you that have volunteered. This'll be a good time

We'll exchange cell numbers, etc. in the next day or so. Tx / Mike

I just checked the thread, I am available with the KLR if that works and you still need me. My number is 573.528.5212. Never mind the KLR, I have the wife's NT700v.

UPDATE

I live almost as high up the mountainside as you can get and it's snowing like a freaking Banshee here. An absolute snotstorm. I will meet the rest of you as planned but with a minor exception; I probably won't be on a bike if I can't get one off the mountain. Doesn't matter though as we're all covered and I'll still be there to meet up and make sure everybody's pointed in the right direction and the mid-day transition goes smoothly.

Below are the fine points:

Course management says that if there is significant snow on the ground the morning of the race they will likely cancel the bike portion so be aware that there might be a last minute judgement call from the ivory tower that could impact plans but as of this point there is no snow expected in town on Sunday and we're still needed. Similarly, if the bicycle portion were to be cancelled the race would convert to a duathlon and the swim and run would go on as scheduled for participants... just not for us.

Next up is that there will be three course marshals instead of four. Two for the early session and one for the afternoon session.

Heli, you're slotted in on the morning shift, and

Simestd, you're slotted in on the morning shift, too.

You two (and I) will meet the bike section race management in front of the Red Robin nearest Bartlett HS at 8:45a. Your shift runs from 9:00a - 12:00p. I'll be putting the moves on a stack of pancakes right close by somewhere around 7:45a and will PM you guys a location. Breakfast is on me if you're up for it.

Andrew, you're slotted in for the second shift and

we'll meet at the Red Robin nearest Bartlett HS at 11:45a. Your shift is from 12:00p-3:00p and you're welcome to meet up w/ us at the early shift breakfast if you're up for it. I'd be honored to have your company but if you opt to snooze a little longer and show up at 11:45 know you'd be doing what I'd do in your shoes, too.

Do any in the group have a beanie helmet or two? We'll need a couple beanies for the marshals and I don't recall where they came from last year. I'll see if Barb's got some throw downs in a back room if you all don't already have same.

Drunk Uncle and Dapman... thank you very much for stepping up. All slots are full and we are covered but I sincerely appreciate your offer to help, gentlemen!

If I've forgotten anything I'll post it up as we get closer. If other stuff merits mention more info will be posted as we get closer.

Thank you all again for stepping forward!

Andrew

What sizes we talking, Andrew?

(edit: skip that question. i have no idea what size heads the women have that will be marshaling. please bring two of them and if you have a third size please bring that as well, Andrew. just taking a wild guess i'd imagine the ladies heads probably won't be in the XL or bigger range).

Simestd, Heli, and Andrew...

Xlnt job, gentlemen! Outstanding! I and over 1400 ladies (minus whichever ones might have gotten written up) very much appreciate your efforts. Tom, my wife probably would appreciate your search and destroy mission on my breakfast, too. She's been on me like a bad rash about how the whole Jack Sprat reversal thing was not her vision for me and the woman has no off button. I've looked. Nada.

Shame about a top competitor flatting out and from your comments it sounds like the road this year compared to the road last year was the culprit.

Regardless, my hat's off to you all and speaking of hats; Andrew, I have yours. Please let me know where to bring it and when. I will magically appear there and then with hat in hand.

I and many others greatly appreciate your efforts, gentlemen.

Thank you all very much

...and on an unrelated note:

Mark, one of the marshals that you probably know pretty well was going on about a ride on the back of your Ducati and a smooch at the end of the ride. From what I could tell that's no longer the practice after a ride but, chin up, gentlemen. Eventually history does repeat itself.

Which Mark? If it was me then it was years ago on the back of my 'ol Beemer. My Duc's monoposto. And I SURE don't remember no kiss.

Glad to hear y'all had a great time. Mellow Moto Marko

Might have been some other event. Sounded like it was you she was talking about and she definitely said it was a Duc. Not sure about the mono part now that you mention it.

Maybe...

Hmm. Not sure now. Maybe she transposed the two mfg's but I'm pretty sure it was you she was talking about and she must know that you have a Duc, too. The smooch was some kind of creative photo op posing from what I gathered but it was clear that she thought yours was cooler!

Okay, now it's coming back to me. Sweet little peck on the cheek for a photo.

Those Beemers work pretty good for course marshaling and I DO enjoy taking girls for a ride.

Good times. Mark H.

Between the road conditions and the vehicular traffic this year on the bike course, I wouldn't be surprised if the course changed next year.

Thanks again Mike for handling the logistics (and the omelet!)

PSA: GNT 2014 registration opens March 4th 8:00pm

Not a motorcycle event, but many folks here participate or have friends or SOs that are involved in the Gold Nugget as volunteers.

The signup madness this year starts on March 4th, 8 PM.

More details on the GNT website.

Legion, if you're wrangling volunteers again, I'm interested and this year I'll buy YOUR breakfast

Thanks for the heads up, Tom. That sign-up is always a mad dash. I think the women are psyching each other out by saying "oh yeah... I don't know if I'll do it this year" and then 5 minutes before the official sign-in opens they've got everybody in the house hovering over a keyboard waiting for hollered instructions.

Reaaaaady.... GO!

Are you on yet?!

Anybody on yet?!!

How about now?!!!

On another note, I talked to my doc the other day and he said that I can't have anything for breakfast except a big honking Chateaubriand a la pobre. Not sure what that's all about. I suppose I should start following the rules sometime soon though. I'm sure she knows what she's talking about.

Mmmmm.

And on that note, today is Mrs Legion's first day of being an official med school student. Don't tell her about the a la pobre deal.
