I've been to Mineral a couple times before, (Mineral City an Idaho Ghost Town Ride (Vid at End) & Chain Gang Returns to Mineral), but you always miss stuff.

After my first time in the area, TW forum member jfletcb pointed out "If you ever go back, keep an eye out on the lower half, where the creek is near the road for a washed out wooden bridge if you cross and follow the road , theres an old graveyard back there."

So I just had to go back. Summer Hell's Canyon fires threatened the area, but did not reach Mineral.

First the video

Didn't see the wooden bridge, but I found the way across the creek and found the graveyard

Found 3 headstones ...if you will. What the heck is this?

Turns out it is a special "Treestone" for "Woodmen of the World" a fraternal/insurance organization

Very interesting. I've never seen a "Treestone" before. Dum Tacet Clamet "though silent he speaks” or “here rests a Woodman of the World.”
More info on Woodmen of the World here: Woodmen | Cemeteries and Cemetery Symbols

View from above near the cemetery of what remains of Mineral Idaho

Fall colors in Mineral

...and the stuff! Did a little geocaching too. Cache is in a tire at the base of that telephone thingy.

My cache helper

Happy Trails

Nice video. Your pup really likes the water doesn't he?

Good to see you are out finding caches.

Silver City is one of those places I've been wanting to visit but haven't made it yet. I'll get there one of these days.

If there is a body of water and we stop engine off, in the drink she goes. ...but only up to her stomach!

The main Murphy-Silver City-Jordan Valley road(s) are nice and you can take in lots of views. SC is a must stop! Jeep trails I've been riding on recently are a bit gnarly. Sometimes I question myself...but I keep getting different answers. Do it, don't do it, shouldn't do it, oops I did it. You know what I mean, giggle!

Hope Silver City makes your "done it" list one day. Worth it!

Ghost Ranch - The Rest of the Story

Just another day exploring roads, mines and geocache's around the Silver City, Idaho area. First stop was a cache on one of the old mining roads.

Successfully found

My cache helper

Then I headed to Thomas Lake, Thomas Falls and a nearby cache

Georgie skinny dipping again

Thomas Falls above the lake

Listed as a lake, it's more the size of a pond in my book, still pretty though

There is a little ice in the shaded area of the lake

Odd color's in/on the lake. Wonder if it is runoff from mine tailings

Me and Georgie at one of the original building sites at the Ghost Ranch. Suppose to be a cache here. I couldn't find it. It was last found in 2011

A few hundred yards away is the newer Ghost Ranch Cabin. Watch out for Sally!!! More info on the Ghost Ranch at the geocache website: GCQ1JP Ghost Ranch (Traditional Cache) in Idaho, United States created by Gary & Margie

This ranch is part of the Owyhee Homestead Series of geocache's. I've been to a few so far this year (Crutcher Crossing, Bull Basin, Birch Creek)

Old/New. Rode by an old mine which appears to be in the process of being re-mined

On down the main War Eagle Mtn road, I explored some more old mine area's

Recently read an article which mentioned there were 82 stamp mills in the Silver City area in the late 1800's Here is the foundation of one of them

Part of the stamp mill off to the side of the above foundation

This foundation extended further out and you can see the mine tailing piles

At another site while heading back to the rig. Unfortunately my camera ran out of memory (just like me) but this cabin/mine had a sluice box running out of it to the back from the hillside. Wish I could have gotten
a photo to show you

Well, this ended another day long adventure in the Silver City area. Lots of things I have yet to see so I'll be back many times.

Have a great day.

Hi Admiral, Nice round of pics, especially the mining stuff. Looks like you'll have to go back to get a pic of the sluice box.

@RRRThanks for reading RRR, I'll have to spend more time in the Owyhee Mtns. in and around the Silver City area next year. Lots to see that I haven't.

@N16ht5, so you've familar with the area. Do share, I don't want to miss anything on future rides in the area.

Both of you feller's threads are outstanding.

Another Day at the Office

Well, I wish this was my permanent office

Not a ride report in the normal sense, but riding to be sure.

Early morning parking at Camp Notell'em

Got the TW "Winterized" minus the tire chains. Wasn't really expecting snow just yet!

My cabin

Certainly some nice views from the office window while I conduct an Elk survey

"White water"

Enjoy the Thanksgiving season with your family, Admiral.

Act II Another Day at the Office

Me and Georgie think we'er on the hot trail of the elusive Wapiti (Cervus canadensis)

Discover some very suspicious tracks. We must be on to something!

Oh wait, that's us!

Office parking!

I like the outdoors

Well well, more un-TW tracks

After another hard, but wonderful day of Elk Surveying it's time for some dinner in the camp mess hall

In the upcoming weeks I'll be conducting my "Deer Survey". Until next time have a great day!

I wish this was everyday

Holiday Season Spirit

Since I was messing around with the camera...

Practicing my video editing skills after practicing some riding. Actually, the rear view, front fork view and windshield view were all recorded on different days. Happens to be they were all cloudy and looks like it was recorded on the same day. Oh, and on the last day it was 27 degrees outside. Not arctic, but still a little chilly!

Happy Holiday's
