Friend of mine has the Cone's on his R65. He has a video up on Youtube do a search.

I just slash cut my stock mufflers they were so beat up. I like the way they came out and they really are not that loud. There actually still a baffle inside them. Best part about the mod? It was free except for my time...

You can hear it here. Me abusing her on the burnup board.

I have an old Luftmesiter 2 into 1 on my R100RS "Das Beast". Also had the same on my first BMW 30 years ago on my 1977 R75/7.

You can pull the baffle out easily and wrap it for under $7 US... and get the sound you want.

Mine is pretty beat, but still all there. I will probably have them "Jet Hot" coated black come winter.

As a rule, BMW Riders hate them... so you can pick 'em up dirt cheap at swap meets, and the other online places.

+1 on the freebies. Milestones, you said you wanted "relatively inexpensive". How about "cheap"? I like my chop saw.

A friend of mine claims that he has never seen an exhaust system that he couldn't improve with a hacksaw. He runs the first cone of /5 mufflers (slightly larger diameter than the later ones) hacked off at the first seam with nothing inside. When he starts his bike he proclaims that he is going to "ring my bells". They are louder than a mofo! I have listened to them inside of his slip stream at 100mph. It reminded me of a lot of the soundtrack to the movie "Lemans". Loud engines at high rpm. When he wanted to slip by some cops undetected he could reach back and put his boots in them for a mile or so before his feet got too hot. Night and day difference!

+ 1 . Give me my hacksaw, hole saws, drill bits, sawzall, chisels, punch, and chop saw. I have opened up many stock exhaust cans (and air boxes, too) in many ways on many machines. ( too many "many's"?) Gotta let 'em BREATHE.

I stacked supertrapps. They DO NOTHING for the old style look, but they sound tough.
