Not with the proper map. But then what's the rush, you still shouldn't be opening it up until it's broken in.

I have a 2011 690 Enduro R that I bought new. It has been an awesome bike. Perfect for a Dual Sport that is ridden mostly on non technical trails, dirt roads and pavement. I'd like to get the suspension re-valved, and a handlebar mounted map switch. With those two modifications, I think it would be way more friendly in the woods. This bike has so much torque, it's an absolute blast to ride on tight twisty mountain roads!

Thanks,

Harry
I did exactly that, Ditched the stock can & filter for Wings & RR filter as soon as I got it home. I asked the dealer when I picked it up & was told it would be fine. He even encouraged it. Although I did leave the stock map untill the 1st service, then went to Akra.
Creedy.

The Rally Raid Twin Air filter makes the bike seriously LOUD ...

You get used to it, but ...

The other issue to think about is the fact that the Twin Air filter works without the plastic snorkel - i.e. it's just sitting there under the seat - the situation is worsened if you fit the Evo-2 tanks, as they necessitate removing the small plastic guards from either side/front and around the key - then there really is no protection at all - i.e you can stand next to the bike and see the air filter ...

IMO the Rally Raid Twin Air filter kit seems better suited to the situation where you also have an Adv or Rally fairing - it was designed for that scenario ...

I'm going to swap mine over to the UniFilter arrangement ...

Question - anybody from CA, what are you guys paying for these things? Anyone else have a deposit down on the '13? The ride by wire throttle I did not know about it, but I don't fear technology that much... Things like the broken tank bolts and the throttle body backfiring off scare me more!

Thanks again for all the info. :)
I wouldn't worry.

I've 3.5k+ miles with no issues. Replacing the tank bolts is very simple and quick. I can't recommend enough upgrading your seat to a Seat Concepts foam and skin - it will transform your bike from an instrument of torture into one that can be ridden all day long.

I'm two weeks away from heading off into continental Europe and Morocco/Western Sahara for the next year and more and I have no fears about reliability.

Temp gauge reading

My 2012 690 runs about 3-5 bars from the top most days. Is this about normal?

Depends on what the air temp is and what kind of riding you're doing. Doesn't sound like you have a problem.

Mine is about the same - coming to the end of summer here, but has been a concern - gets a lot hotter on warm days, and slow going.

I'm going to replace the coolant with Engine Ice, and see what effect that has.

Normal.

I have seen mine as much as 2 bars from the top when it's over 105F outside and I'm pushing it hard.

Handlebar buzz / vibration

I have a stock 2012 690 Enduro with the stock tires.
I have what seems like a lot of buzz / vibration in the handlebars while riding on the street. I assume some of it is from the tires and some of it from the overly stiff suspension. Does any one have a solution to deaden some of this buzz / vibration?

Have you adjusted the clickers? I just got a new 2013 and the stock suspension setup was very stiff and harsh. I backed off the compression damping 5 clicks at both ends and it is MUCH better.

I ended up setting mine to "Comfort" for compression damping and "Standard" for rebound. I get some vibration, but it's a 690cc single with knobby tires, so part of the territory.
