No progress yet. Razee said they replaced the sending unit and low pressure light is still on. They checked oil pressure and it's at spec. They are now thinking the instrument panel has some sort of issue or other wiring problem. They are working directly with KTM to solve it. Part of the struggle is the shop manual for that bike isn't updated yet and many of the parts have changed from ealier models of that motor. Even the oil filter is different.

Have about 3k miles on it so far. Motor has smoothed out a lot. Other than the oil light, I am very happy with mine.

Razee Motorcycle in RI called me today to tell me it was a connector problem The new part comes in next week. Me happy!

Best motorcycle I have owned. Most fun fore sure. Go Razee!

Did they mention where the connection issue is and what part is needing replaced?

No and I didn't ask. I'll find out when I pick the bike up and post it here. Pretty good experience with Razee, though. They have a couple tuners that specialize on the KTM's. I just wish they were closer to me. Family owned business for decades. Seems like they carry all the Japanese brands except Suzy, plus BMW, Duc, KTM and Guzzi.

Cheaper than Titanium.

Would using heat wrap on the exhaust be a cheap and simple option? It won't look cool but I don't want to be spending money on an Akrapovic if it's just going to be hidden behind panniers anyway.

My first post. Picking my shiny new 690 Enduro R up on Friday

Don't bother with wrap, just ride as is until you can afford the full Akra system. Worth it in weight loss, heat loss, sound and performance.

Forgo the wrap and get the pipe ceramic coated. 8 years later, the head pipe I had done for my 640A still looks the bomb.....AND it made a world of difference in the amount of heat it radiated.

Gonna do it for the new-to-me-but-used '12 690's head pipe.

Jet Hot is a brand, a quick google for ceramic header coatings will give you an overload of colors and choices. Depending on where you live, there might be a coater in your own town.

You could probably get it done for less than a Benjamin.

That's a good idea. Don't know about prices yet but I've looked into doing it - Zircotec (I'm in the UK) say it reduces heat loss by 30%

A friend has painted his 990 nukes with a 700C black heat resistant paint, it made a lot of difference at virtually no cost.
You could actually touch the cans after a ride. Before the paint, that was not possible until after a few minutes. It also seems the paint is very tough.

Oil Consuption 2012 690R

How is the Oil Consumption? (Fuel consumption is great - compared to the 950's I had before)
I have the 2012 690R with a Akro slip-on and it seems the Oil consumption is high. Riding with standard mapping and bike has done about 5,000km. KTM Dealer recons the bike uses about 50 to 100 ml oil per 1,000km.

The bike is ready to be picked up. I only know they changed the oil pressure sending unit, the oil filter and some gaskets. It may have had a 2011 filter in it as they are different and I had a non-street KTM dealer service it at 1000 miles. He could have installed the wrong one, but can't say for sure. I'll get the details when I pick it up and post it here.

First 800 miles..,used about 300cc. Changed oil and put on around another 900 miles and it hasn't used any significantly yet.

Frustrated!
Beautiful day in Colorado and I have the day off. So I geared up to go for a ride on my stock 2012.
The bike has been flawless, only 500 miles on it.
Fire it up and it's idling like poo. FI lamp flashing 6 times. TPS?
GRRRR! This could ruin my day!

Works fine now. These are the parts they replaced:

Oil pressure switch
short filter
long filter
clutch case gasket
seal ring
2 qts platinum full synthetic 10W60

I guess the bike had the wrong oil filter installed at the 1k mile service. No harm done.

2012 fan cowling

Does anyone with a 2012 690 have the problem my 08 had of the fan cowling placed against the radiator and therefore slowly wearing through the radiator tubing?I sold mine due being fed up with its many problems but I am now considering a new 12 or 13 model if the main problems are fixed [false neutral between 5th and 6th,1st gear too high 6th gear too low,fan cowling problem] It also had many other problems which I fixed.
The radiator problem was pathetic, mine holed its radiator ruining my Cape York trip when a electrical plug was ziptied by the factory against the radiator and wore through after 3000 klms and then when stripped down for repair it was noted that the fan cowling was also wearing through and it would only of been a matter of time before it too wore a hole.
I am annoyed at KTM for their poor design of this bike but as we know it has an amazing power to weight ratio compared to anything else out there for adventure riding.
I am not a KTM basher as I still own my beloved bulletproof 2004 525 and have owned a 2007 990 Adventure, so how about it guys is the revamped 690 have its radiator cowling and false netural sorted?
