Exploring camping, fishing location in the Francis Marion. Rolling wheels 13:00 on Monday. Currently 2 GS1200 are riding. Come on if you want. We will be getting off the bikes to explore some of the site. I read that the ice storm has closed a few places.

Taco Boy or Lost Dog?

Looks like the concensus from the State thread is Lost Dog.

Ride on Sunday, May 4, 2014?

Anyone up for a ride tomorrow (Sunday, May 4th?).

Looking for riders in the extreme southern part of SC (Beaufort, Hampton, Jasper counties). Kind of like last weekend but on a different route perhaps.

Weather should be spectacular...

Too bad, Mark. I'll be thinking about you!!

Think I'll make a run over into Georgia and remind myself about where some of those roads go...

Hey Guys, new to thread. I've noticed quite a few of ya'll ride in Francis Marion on KLRs. I've never ridden out there, but plan too soon (on a KLR). I've got a buddy who swears a KLR can't hack it out there, but I'm calling BS. Any insight?

Sure it can. There are lots of dirt roads out that way that are perfect for KLRs...met one out there this past weekend, actually. Bigwrench takes his klr out on the wambaw trails and does OK. It doesn't look like too much fun in the sand to me but it can certainly hack it.

Wombaw can be good for a KLR, but it can also be very difficult for a KLR. watching the weather and the grooming dates is the key. It takes a couple of dry weekends after a fresh grooming to make things really powdery, and that is really tiring on a heavy bike. momentum is the key but after a couple more dry weekends the braking bumps will become breaking whoops. Rain can be your best friend. a day or two of drizzle to moderate rain will really firm up the sand and you can ride any bike out there. always check the call before u Haul to be sure the trail is open. Bigwrench goes a lot after work he's definitely the one you wanna hook up with. There are lots of good KLR roads in the forest (especially Willow HaLL), so it's never a waste of time to check out Wambaw. Also, both loops have 3 mi. Short sections you can check the conditions on. Those are the first to get beat up, so if they are passable, the rest is great.
See you out there.

Clint

Tuesday May 13 2014 PM and Sunday May 18th ALL DAY

Leaving Auto Repair Experts garage in Goose Creek at 5:30 PM Tuesday evening to ride the Wambaw cycle trail on the green KLR 650, hope to arrive up there about 7pm taking the FUN route up. Bring $5 for the box, the trail is open 24 hours if you have lighting on your bike. I plan on riding till about 9:30 PM, then riding home to Jim Isle. Sunday May 18 2014 will be the Armenia Dual Sport Ride in Chester, SC. I'll be leaving James Island ~8am Saturday morning stretching the 3 hour trip up there into a ~6 hour terrain survey, camping on site Saturday night in Chester and riding the Dual Sport Ride on Sunday and then riding home on Sunday evening. YOU are welcome to join in for any part or all.
