WV - Rella thinking of closing the diner?? Yikes!
I was pleasantly surprised last evening when Rella called me. She is doing OK, but wondered where everyone is? Apparently, there is a new family diner open in Cleveland (WV - about 10 miles north of her) and Rella's Diner has been empty the past few months. She told me she was even thinking of closing up shop.
She is also concerned about her grand-daughter Jonna, who many of you have met. She is now a young mom and is struggling. Rella could use some supportive words. She was concerned maybe she did something to keep people away, but I reassured her I think I would have seen something posted on ADV. I told her I haven't been there since I sold my bike last August, and haven't been any closer than French Creek. Maybe I'll have to take the wife down in the minivan for a meal and a slice of pie. Anyhow, think about stopping by for lunch sometime. Rella misses all of us visiting. For those of you who have never been there, I've added some photos below of past visits. She is located on Rt 20, about a mile south of the lumber mill at Hacker Valley, which is just south of Holly River SP. It's about 20 miles south of Rock Cave. You can call the diner at 304-493-6658. It is truly a unique dining experience. Tell her I said "Hi". ![]() Southbound on Rt 20, it's on your left just south of Hacker Valley. ![]() Now GREAT-GREAT-GRANDMA Rella. Cookin' up a storm for one of our gatherings. ![]() Rella checking with everyone to make sure the food is good. It's always good! ![]() The famous pie fridge - always stocked with home-made goodies. ![]() Shall we gather? ![]() One of our ADV gatherings. That's Rella in the back (R) with her daughter, Jeaneace (L). ![]() Enjoying the great food and company. ![]() Another day in the pie fridge. ![]() Mmmmmm.... ![]() And ANOTHER gathering. ![]() The ADV gang. ![]() Good food, as always. ![]() Mmmmm, homemade pie. ![]() Enjoying a good home-cooked meal. ![]() Just like Mom used to make. ![]() Rella's house burned down in 2011, and we had a gathering for lunch. ![]() Almost all of her belongings were destroyed in the fire. ![]() Our ADV group collected over $1,300 to help Rella through the tough times. ![]() Later that year, she had a trailer moved onto the lot. She is living in there now. ![]() The ADV riders met a group of Canadian riders at Rellas for lunch last year. ![]() Fun, food, and meeting other riders. ![]() And, once again, the pie fridge was full of delicious goodies. ![]() And, once again, great home-cooked food. ![]() Canadian riders, ADV riders, and translators. Hope you all can find time to stop by for lunch, or at least call Rella and say hi. She is a wonderful lady who makes everyone feel welcome. Let's not forget about her. I think she would go crazy if the diner closed and she just sat around her house all day. THANKS!!

Unfortunately, I'm one of the "guilty" ones who hasn't been by there for a spell. Not that I haven't wanted too, but I just haven't been over that way for quite a spell due to family issues, selling a house in MD, ill inlaws and subsequent death of my father-in-law, pregnant daughters (now new grand-son) that have kept my wife gone for weeks on end (she's gone now :-(( ). 100 excuses, I know. My wife is supposed to be back this Monday. With her here, she can take over the dog-sitting and I promise I will make a bee-line for the place. Will also carry some goods along that I have for you. Should you talk with Rella or Jeaneace, please tell them they've done absolutely nothing, in this man's eyes, to have caused a downturn in her business, and I will do everything in my power to get over there next week. .

I forgot to mention - if you plan to take a large group (say, more than 6 or 8) please call ahead as much as possible so she can plan accordingly. Thanks.

Will do, or maybe Trevor has it on his list already, it does appear to be something you might find in the outback

I've never been there, planned on it, but never made it. Headed to Cruso this weekend, but maybe I can get by there next Friday and check out the Cass rally too.

Thanks! Do you know that it's accurate though? Last year on the way home from the Cathearder Compound me and Twigsnapper used google maps and it didn't take us there.

Yep, that's the spot. If you're heading south on 20 it's on the left just a short ways after you pass the little town of Hacker Valley. I'll look and see if I still have the GPS co-ordinates.

Let's just blame it on Twigsnapper. Works for me.
