Tell me about your panniers!

I'm looking at buying some panniers for my new, fancy Tiger 800 XC.

Before doing so I'd like to know what YOUR boxes are like! Doesn't matter what your bike is.

What brand?

Do you like them?

Inside/outside measurements (not every vendor lists these)?

What do you put in them?

What do you wish were different?

Where do you take them?

I've found innumerable posts swearing by Jesse, Touratech, Metal Mule, Pelican... That's old news. I'm not necessarily looking for durability comparisons. I'm looking for what they're actually being used for!

With all these fat ones, thin ones, big ones, small ones, and some as big as your head it's difficult to decide what I'll really enjoy or need.

Any additional input/comments/hints/tips/whatever are welcome!

Here's the babby tiger!

I have seen:

The new Givi, and they are very sharp. Just my $.02.
Ride safe all,

They're kinda boxy-looking.

Seahorse cases. SE-520 for smaller bikes, SE-720 for bigger ones. Inner measurements are readily available. 60% the price of Pelican cases, 90% of the durability, and integrated locks. That's why I really love them.

Pelican Hardigg Storm cases, get the IM2600.

Typically, $116. each.

Or, I would get some aluminum with powder coat panniers from Happy Trails.

I have Touratech Zegas on my 640 Adventure. They are a simple square aluminum box.

You don't want hard panniers that are too robust. Something has to give in a drop or crash. It all starts with the frame. Youtube should have plenty of videos of panniers from different makers.

I just ordered a set of TraX boxes and mounts for my bike. I've always liked the way they looked, and now that the water sealing issues have been addressed I feel they are a no brainer. The come with the liners as a standard no cost option and can be had either powder coated or raw aluminum finish. The quick detach SW Motech mounts will be handy for servicing and cleaning chores.

I've also used Happy-Trails panniers and feel like they also offer a quality product and would have bought another set this time, but they just don't look quite right on the Versys. Their mounts and construction make them extremely strong, but still remaining light weight.

I tried to do business with the USA retailer for Jesse's and basically got blown-off when I was asking a few questions prior to ordering. Scratch them off the list of anyone I'd do business with.

Givi stuff is okay for plastic, but I'm done using their products as well. They are a good price point luggage, but fall short on their ability to top load (I know the Trekkers and E41's have a partial opening). The exception is the E21's. These are over acheivers when it comes to holding a lot of gear. The Trekkers have an overly complex latching method for the partially opening lid that I don't think will hold up well over the long hall (I may be wrong here).

There is a lot of good stuff out there, just find what works best for you.

Ortlieb throw overs -- truely water proof, light, won't break my leg when I bin it, cheaper than hard bags . . . .

The only downsides are the lack of locks (I'm not sure a lock would stop someone that wanted into your panniers), and no place to put all the stickers . . . . . . .

The price difference alone equals a couple/three long weekends out in the Thulies

order from these guys. http://www.casecruzer.net I got a case comparable to a $300+ pelican for less than half the cost. I neat the hell out of it with 60lbs of gear over gravel, sand and concrete. I believe it's just pelican's cheaper line.

I went with happy trails and couldn't be happier

I like everything about them, I will however be moving them to my trailer soon.
