Possible Work in Africa

There is a possibility that I may be working in Africa for a year or so, based around Djibouti, and have a couple of general questions for the collective.

1. What would the difficulties be in bringing a bike to that region for an extended period?
2. Would I need any special drivers license, or would an international drivers license suffice?
3. I currently have a DL650, but would probably consider getting something a little more "off-road" friendly before going there. Are there certain bikes that would be more suitable for that region, considering things like fuel, parts availability, etc?

Thanks.

Anybody? Ideas or costs in shipping a bike to that region or an adjoining country?
