Good deal. Enjoy the ride and keep us posted. Hope the brake light is just the abs sensor I guess is whats acting up. Just so u got good brakes. Headed to a late Halloween Party. I am going as "Paul Belleyun" instead of Bunyan. Easy for me with the big belley :). Barb is Annie Oakley. She makes a good one in real life too!

A Virginia and West Virginia Vacation

I have been too busy to post up much of my riding over the past 6 months or so and I plan to catch up a bit. mtngal and I would like to share a trip we made last fall ( 2013). We rode about 1600 miles, she took about 1600 photos, ( no I will not post them all), and we started out with a new Metzeler Tourance on the rear of our GSA and with riding 2-up, carrying camping gear, and nothing but 10 days of awesome curves, this is what was left of a new tire and normally I would get about 4000, not 1600!!!:

So here are a few teaser shots from this report and I will tell you more as we go. It will take me several days to post this trip and I hope you enjoy it as we travel through back roads and beautiful glacial valleys of nothing but farmland and several days we were on nothing but one lane paved little hidden roads and almost never passed a car, never was behind anything but maybe the occasional farm tractor, rarely another motorcycle, as though we were back in time to the 1930's it seemed:

Interested? mtngal takes some nice photos both on and off the bike so here we go on this trip of hidden and unknown roads with some camping, some motels, and one of the most awesome B&B's in this country for a splurge on a remote 3200 acres. The little roads are mostly anonymous so if you like this, maybe just go ride with us someday. Your comments are always appreciated and I will work on this report over the next few days.....I want this to inspire you to find the adventure, find your own roads, forget the "Snakes", "Dragons", and other serpentine well-knowns and find the unknown...it is out there!

Well, the day finally came when we were loaded up and ready to head out on our little adventure. Not knowing for sure what lay ahead, except that we had made a two day reservation at what should be a wonderful high point of our trip at a B&B Lodge in a remote area of Virginia. This gave us a number of days to explore then end up there a few days. Ready to roll:

We live in a remote part of Western NC near the TN border. I really should fix this bridge someday before this heavy bike crashes through it...then we are off the farm and on the trail through the woods until we hit a paved road to Hot Sprangs.

A neighbor

My pretty, photo shootin, pillion forever:

We take back roads all the way! No interstate for us!

This local road was closed for some time as it slid off the mountain literally.

Still in NC and headed northward:

Lunch time:

No comment except this is NOT the front of my truck

Toe River

"baccie" near ripe now

Did you know that kudzu is edible, very nutritious in fact so these people have no excuse for being hungry...

Time taking its toll

Mutt:

Jeff:

Shady Valley

familiar to many of you

Not sure what this is but don't think it looks very accommodating....

In Virginnie now headed towards Marion

Dinner

Room first night

Shagbark hickory

Marion is a great historic little town to explore

On the road day two

I guess everybody gotta have a dragon, did not realize this one had that name:

Haunted house it looks

OK, we enter worst Virginnie

More later....

What a great trip! Some favorites and a few new places to check out, thanks for the bread crumbs.....

I will try the Black Rooster next run to Marion, I have to admit other than a tank of petrol or a snack I have never spent any time in town and have continued to camp at Hungry Mother and/or continued over the hill.

Cheers

Cool. I can't wait to see what you've been up to. Missed hearing from you and meeting up. Maybe now you'll have some time?

Hey guys! Thanks for checking in! I hope to post up more of this thing tomorrow. We really had a nice trip and I wanted to post it up before now but just not much time lately. I have more stuff to post up over the next few weeks other than this trip but it does take slow me about as much time to post stuff as riding it . I am not sure about more time, we were getting ready to roll out for Big Bend TX this past March then my 93 year old daddy fell and broke his right hip. He is in rehab still and we are trying to figure out in the next few weeks whether to take him home and hire some help and me and my brother trying to take care of him or get him in an assisted living arrangement. he was totally independent until this fall and its tough for him in a big way so we will see. Ok, nuf of that, good to hear from all of you and we will post up more soon. mtngal says howdy too

Thanks Cuttle, will do! Let's see, somewhere along the line, I accidentally got wrapped up in the herd on a BORING road so that did not last long:

Oh dear! Or deer I should say, lots of them out there but we made NO connections so that is good but we are back on our kind of road...

Oh yeah, here is one for Kenny and PJ!!!!

You make the caption, I'm thinking....

Flood Zone???? Cold Beer Ohkay!

Now this is a site to see, old folks camping and lovin it up near where the kayakers play where great rivers meet, can you guess where? Clue: Gawley as Gomer Pile would say.

mtngal always sees the little things

And...a few big things

Looks like they got rich in a flash and left

Geeish, what was in that drink anyway....

argh, cough, errh, glad he pulled over before we died of black lung....

now back to the program...

I told you she took a lot of photos

Summer clearance alright, selling the whole place!

Now these folks have gone underground in a big way and think they are out in the sticks where we won't see them

These hounds asked their chauffeur to pullover so they could watch us pass...bear hunter I guess, heck we find bear often with the camera and did again in a few days as you'll see...

Phew, thought I die looking for this, stopping now!!!!!

Darn it!!!!! Was looking forward to this one, oh well....

She was disappointed too but there are more roads to come!

I guess you can tell from the above photo that I keep important stuff handy, my sweetie, my Tevas, and my beer mugs!!!....oK, spend the night here if we can find the owner and get permission to pitch a tent...

Back rolling on a shunshinny day!

No wonder that tire wore out and I ran it tight on pressure and had the suspension dialed up too...

Clue ( but there is lots in here with no clue)

Get yor bug serviced here

Ever been here? This appears previously in my escapades and we had a nice lunch here in their little restaurant in fact....

this monster is actually about a mile away!

I think I should rename my stuff to "the barn thread"...

There is always just gotta be one darn eye sore, needa spar tar?

looks like ol' grumpy in Circleville

Ok, lets go up onto Spruce knob, highest point in Worst Virginnie....

This ain't workin'

Scary in fact...that sign may be good advice, Im outta here

Even my buddy is scared

How about leaving instead of entering...

On th road again

I swear I did not see this guy but mtngal did

Looks like a good place to camp to me but got arguments on this one....

uh, lemme see, uhhh????

We got just a glimpse, big foot, yep, that was him taking a leak I think....

Catmando

I am so sorry, I did not see him, I did not mean to kill your dog mam....

Oh thank goodness, mtngal to the rescue, hope he is OK....

Oh yeah, I am having a blast!

Ford dealer even rusted....

OK Ok, no more rocks...after this one....

Look at this road, carefully, two days of this stuff, one valley full of farms after another, no towns bigger than a crossroads, people waving happy to see us pass through, just what we were looking for......

I wanna go back...now!!!!

No, I ain't tellin'....

Gawd, it just sucks you in.....

OK, time to stop over and resume tomorrow.....

All that looks good. So much of it looks familiar even if I haven't been there. Dang I love living here.

Love reading and seeing your adventures/pictures. Someone has a great eye for photos...I still snicker at the Beaver sign every time I go by it.
