Dipping into the Mendocino National Forest, NorCal

No riding last weekend with Mothers Day activities, so I was due for a nice one. North on 16 to Bear Valley Rd, stopped by a traffic jam. Dang guys refused to stay on their side of the road!

North end of Indian Valley Reservoir, the creatures of the black lagoon arise.

North on Twin Valley Rd

Still on Twin Valley

Turned left here on 17N11 instead of going straight on 17N04 toward M10.

New territory for me.

At the end of 17N11, turned south on 16N01 toward Upper Lake

Lunch in Clearlake Oaks at a mom-n-pop diner, continued to Lower Lake to Morgan Valley Road, then left on Reiff Road toward Hwy 16/Cache Creek.

Looking west toward Knoxville, headed for the first ridge

Downhill to Davis Creek Reservoir

No pictures of the next climb/descent, home via Hwy 16

great pics

this looks awesome and exactly like some of the rides I want to start doing. how long was the total ride? I'm in SF so 2-3 hours out from where you started, but I'm looking for some multi day excusions on my KLR that don't require too much freeway to get to.

Around 250 miles starting from Vacaville, ~8 hours total. Mendocino Forest is a great place to explore, plenty of camp sites to allow a multi-day ride. I would advise getting a map from their headquarters in Willows and use a GPS to sort out the numbered roads and trails.

hwy 128

Just did one day of the sheetiron in an 800GS with two other guys on 1200GS's. Epic event - Mendocino NP has multiple terrains from coastal to dirt, gravel, creek/river crossings - but I was so surprised at hwy 128 - make a point to take it either up ther or back if you can just beautiful way to get to the coast or back - highly recommend it.

Love it

Hi there,
I am in Fairfield and ride those roads myself. Just went over Walker ridge last week. I would reccomend it . Skirted along the east side of Indian Valley resivour. Next time I think I will try going around the west side. leesville rd. is an interesting paved goat trail. more patches than pavement. Quite the view of the road twisting below,
See you out there.
